HELP! I can't turn my window wipers off!

I know, I know, laugh it out. I'm a new owner. Just got my Mini a few weeks ago and last night, I accidentally turned the window wipers on when I started the car. Realizing my error, I turned them off - no problem. Wake up this morning, start the Mini, and the wipers go on and will not stop. I fiddled with the dials to no avail. Please help. I got so frustrated that I drove my boyfriend's Jeep to work instead. Seriously, what did I do and how do I make them stop??!!

Click the stalk all the way to the bottom on the right hand side(that is the thing that sticks out the right side on the steering column. Now to turn off the rear window wiper, click the end on the stalks turn switch all the way to the bottom also (this is the rounded **** at the end). Thats it.
Check your owners manual if you want pics.

do you think you have a switch failure? that is - even though you've turned the switch off, the contact isn't really "letting off" inside?

if yes, then you've got to go to the dealer. I'd try whacking it around a few times to see if you can get it to release, but it may have just broken somehow. you'll be covered under warranty, but it's inconvenient nonetheless.

Thanks for the suggestion alpinamike. Unfortunately, I'm stuck at work until five but I'll try your method as soon as I get home. I really hope it works, because as thomasdmini said, if it's a malfunctioning switch, I'm going to be majorly inconvenienced and subsequently really pissed!

Anyway, thanks for the quick replies. I really appreciate it!

Well, I have to say, I fixed the window wipers and was able to drive my Mini to work today. YAY! It couldn't have been done without the help of my fellow motorers and their aformentioned suggestions. Thanks again for the advice! Y'all ROCK!

before they read your post it might be broken after they read it. Telling someone to "try whacking it around" is just plain stupid because it's no longer warranteed if you break it like that (if you're honest that is).

MiniPMilly,

I am soo glad that Thomas and Mike where able to help you. I also would of turned to NAM before i turned to my owners manual if I was at work and my MINI was at home. Fred it is over and handled i am sure if she had access to her owners manual she would of used it.
H~

Happy Motoring

Fred3, Not sure why I feel the need to defend myself or the others because I'm sure it's innocent enough, but do you have to YELL when all I was doing was paying a compliment and thanking this community for a little help? FYI, I did read the manual when I experienced the problem, but I was running late for work and still couldn't get the wipers to stop despite the manual's instructions. So, sitting at my desk a little worried, I turned to this forum for some advice and piece of mind. What is so wrong with that? The problem is fixed now and I really feel your posting to me to read the owner's manual is condescending. Just wanted you to know. Now that said, let's be friends and motor safely.
