How do you clean front grill without removing chrome?

We've had an abundant crop of grasshoppers and other large assorted bugs this year and after picking their mashed and mangled bodies off of my grill, I'm at a loss for finding anything that might help clean it totally of the dried bug guts. I've tried using a soft toothbrush and soapy water but there has to be a way to clean it better. Any suggestions? I'm getting bad knees from constant kneeling to clean the darn thing.

If you search "love bugs", you'll find a thread I started recently. I didn't get much of a response, but one guy recommended Griot's Bug-off, which is supposed to make them not stick so hard. I haven't tried it yet.

I have never tried this, but you might try a hair dryer. Heating it would bring them to their "natural state" and might make it easier. I have used a hair dryer to remove dried glue and other items.

If it doesn't work then at least they will look better.

You can also use the old time tested method of removing bugs from motorcycle plastic windshields. Soak a (100% cotton) towel in hot water and lay it over the affected area (wedge it into the grill slats a bit to get it all). Leave it there a few minutes. The heat and moisture loosen it all up so it can be wiped away or rinsed off.

murphys oil soap, available in the laundry or cleaning supplies area at your local grocery. softens the critters up. 95% of them just hose right off.

The Mr. Clean Magic Eraser works wonders.

Ditto! Those things are AWESOME....for cleaning everything...well almost everything... But of course, read the directions for things you shouldn't use them on...

I've always had good luck with good old ammonia glass cleaner and a soft rag. This was my method of choice when working on Rolls and Bentleys, should be good enough for a mere MINI

Thanks so much for the helpful suggestions! I intend to try each one to see which I prefer.

the hot water and rag is best/safest and a great idea! Chrome is real chrome and can pitt. I would wonder about a strong base on chrome?

after you do that, I would use either MEguiar's line of chrome polish or Griot's.

Build a bird cage that mounts on the grill, blocks the radiator fins and intake hole off and stock it with a few hungry tweeties. You'll have clean grill and radiator in no time.

Also, for ergonomics and less sore knees, OPEN the bonnet. Makes it VERY easy to get to the bottoms of the grills. :-) Also gives reason to clean off the various engine areas.
