Fwy Debris = Door Damaged!

I was driving down the 710 to Long Beach behind a truck (I know bad idea) in the far left lane and a 2 X 4 piece of wood flew off the truck and tore up my passenger door. I didn't get the plates or anything.. I didn't even know it was that bad until I parked and checked my car out. Has anyone else had any experience with this? I'm taking it to a body shop on Monday. Would they just have to replace the panel?

Whoa, I am convinced now to back off the trucks. Actually I already have started giving them a LOT more room due to the rock chips I've gotten. That looks bad. I feel for you and wish you and your Mini a speedy and complete recovery.

OUCH! I can't believe a 2 x 4 did that! It looks like a piece of metal just tore right through it.

Yes, the body shop will probably replace the pannel.

Sorry about the Mishap! You have my sympathy.

Hopefully they will be able to reskin the door and no internal pieces were damaged too.

Sorry to hear of your mishap. I hate freaking trucks because of all the stuff they either throw or have fall off. They certainly don't care about securing their loads anymore.

A long time ago...big rig drivers were a nice curtious bunch...Not so today. They could care less (as a whole) about cutting you off etc. I keep my distance on the fwy until I get to a stretch where I can run by them quickly to get out of their way.

Don't ya just love it when they cut in front of you on a grade to pass another truck! Even if it is clear behind you. <rant over>

Yikes! That is scary looking!

I once had a big truck going the OPPOSITE way on the 101 suddenly let loose a bunch of big metal plates (like 2 feet square), headed directly at my windshield.

Luckily, I only got a little star crack in the windshield but I was so terrified. And because he was going the other way, I never caught him :(

X 2!!

Most of the 18-wheelers on the roads sucks at driving...

Because they spend their days on the road, they behave like they own it.

I've done Montreal-Miami several times and every time, they were the worst drivers on the road. They cut you to overpass another truck, they stay on the left lane, and they take forever to overpass another truck...

**End of my daily rant** lol

Thanks for all the warm thoughts guys. Fortunately there was no interior damage.. just the door and some minor scratches near the grill. Yeah tell me about it.. I HAATEEE trucks.. a couple days ago on the 47 a truck didn't even see me and tried to merge into my lane.. I had to swerve into the left turn lane just to avoid being crushed.
