March 2003 Road & Track: Porsche Boxter S - 600 ft. slalom - 71.5 mph
May 2003 Motor Trend, p. 61 - BMW Z4 - 70.3 mph.

Mini Cooper S/Mini Cooper (w/sport plus) - 69.5 mph.

Buuut, our cars still cost half what the Bimmer and Porsche do. And we're FWD, which is more impressive in my opinion.

...not to mention the MINI gives just about any other sports car a run for it's money on a nice twisty section of road

Bahh humbug! We had a good stretch of dominating it all. But all is still not lost. Look at what we can STILL kill in the slalom. Out-doing a McLaren F1 has always got me excited. And I'll stick with that thought for awhile yet to come.
Cheers,

Do we really care if a $50000.00 car can beat a MINI. It should for all it costs. Only stuffed shirts drive these cars anyway. Real people drive MINI's.

Also the MINI that set the record had the heavy sunroof. This would change the center of gravity, and make a huge impact on the slalom test.

For the Boxter "S" it is about 80 or 90 grand, and he Z4 can be over 40 depending on which engine, but I dont care, no matter what we still have the best car...by far.

My May 2003 Motor trend says that the 3.0i Z4 does the 600-ft slalom at 70.3, and the Boxter S 600-ft slalom at 68.3

Not really an apples to apples comparison, as you used different magas with different drivers and undoubtedly different courses.

The MINI MCS was on run flats and 205/17's to boot. After autocrossing on run flats this past weekend and ordering some 215/17 Kumho MX's today, I would like to see what the MCS would have done on these tires. I have driven a Boxster and it was a treat but I think the MCS is an equal on the corners just don't race them on the straights.

Tires are one of the bigger reasons magazine racing is silly!

Magazines are conspiring to make cars come with better tires stock - it's a huge conspiracy and I'm all for it. Here's a toast to it's success!
