Lights mysteriously flashing??????/

I am fairly new to the world of Mini and loving every minute!

The night I bought my 04 MC, I was driving home in rain notices a repeated flash of light right in front of the car. After I found out about the headlight washers I thought that was the explanation.

Have only driven a couple hundred miles but have noticed this flash numerous times in good weather.

It looks like a camera flash in front of the car!

Any thoughts?

I noticed sitting still one time when you turn the wheel the lights dim.... Not a flash really. Not sure what you got going on. Have someone drive in front of you sometime and watch for maybe one of your lights flickering. Maybe a lose wire?? Well Good Luck and keep us up to date.

Maybe you have Xenon headlights that are set to turn themselves on automatically, and the flash you are seeing is when they first turn on? That's what it sounds like.

Only 05 and 06 have automatic headlights as an option. I'm curious as to what this is too.

I have this a lot. To turn on the brights, you pull way back on the headlight control stock and release. To momentarily flash the brights, it requires just the tiniest pull. So when I touch the stock to operate the turn signals, I will sometimes (accidentaly) flash the brights for a zillionth of a second.

Keep a lookout and see if the mysterious flashing is happening when you control your turn signals, computer, etc.

Hey, little bit, MINE DO THIS, TOO! I was just about to post about it while I was here and I found this post. No, I am not touching ANYTHING, and this happens. Mine is also an '04 with Xenons.

I will have BOTH HANDS on the steering wheel only, not touching any of the controls, and this happens. It almost seem like they are turning themselves off, and then real quick come back on.

And mine are not set to come on automatically, either.

I already have service scheduled on the 30th, so I will ask about it then!

It wouldn't be the low washer fluid light would it? At night when mine first flashed it freaked me out as it is kind of hidden behind the steering wheel so I couldn't see where the flashing was coming from, maybe if you were just low, it would flash on an off when you hit bumps.

If this is just happening in rain, check carefully under the bonnet up high near the windshield if water is getting in there. Water got up there in my 04 and fried a relay causing lights to go on. It was totally wet up there.

Yes, it IS a problem! Have your dealer look at it....

And we HAVE a verdict! Yes, they are having problems with a lot of the Xenons flickering...they have to order a whole new headlight for the passenger side, and a new components for the driver side. But hey! I get a brand new headlight at no cost to me!

We have had our lights mysteriously turn on w/o the key even being in the ignition , and our door locks seem to lock and unlock themselves, once again the key is not in the ignition or anything, I guess it has a mind of it's own . We haven't been to the dealer yet for our first service, but that is one thing we have on our list for them to checkout , it's kind of creepy.

OH NO!!! The service manager even commented, "This is an EXPENSIVE part...but it won't cost you anything..."

Hopefully, it will continue to function. But I worry that the car in front of me keeps thinking I'm flashing him.

I noticed this last night! My Auto AC temp display kind of flickers slightly... I have only really noticed it there... I don't know if it happens elsewhere...

What we're talking about is something a bit different, so if your flickering bothers you, you may want to start a new post. We are talking about the headlights (xenons) themselves cutting in and out. Almost like there's a short in them. Yeah, I think your A/C temp display flickering is something different (I don't have that one....yet!)
