Shipping a Mini!

Does anyone have a recommendation for a shipping company in the Los Angeles Area? I'm looking for one that is quick, but not too expensive. I don't want to spend 1200 to ship a car 1200 miles, but I also don't want it to take 3 weeks!

Thanks in advance!

I recently relocated for work, and my cars were shipped with a company called Dependable Auto Shippers or something like that.

I think they did a decent job. Don't know how much money it was, though.

A few years ago I shipped a Miata from Miami to San Fran

as you know the size and weight of the car figure into the equation as does distance. And a closed truck will cost more than an open one.

For a 'standard shipper' you can expect a cross country trip to take a couple of weeks or longer (mine was 3) because they will pick up at the date you choose then simply take it to a transfer point waiting until they have a full load going your way.

My shipment cost about $850, 6 years ago.

This site is a useful starting point: http://www.shipvehicles.com/ fill out 1 form and get multiple quotes

You can also find independents that will ship one car at a time but that will require research....

Have you thought of buying a cheap one way plane ticket and taking a weekend to drive your new baby home? You'll have a weekend trip that you'll remember for the rest of your life and you'll arrive home with the break in procedure already done!

That's what we did the last time. Saved a lot of money and had a fantastic time!

^ +1 1200miles is nothing.

typically 10hours drive in one day with plenty of stops is about
900-1000 miles. ive done LA to Chicago and back by myself.
a couple of times.

you can probably even do it in one day, but i wouldn't recommend it
unless you have another driver in the car.

I just had my mini shipped from NY to MD. The company was called http://www.autotransportdirect.com/ They have very good rates. It only cost me 350 which is very reasonable.

I think im going to have my car shipped also when i move to Las Vegas from florida. Only due to the time issue, i'll be sending boxes of my stuff before hand, and then flying out hoping that my car will arrive a little before me or a day or two after.

I was wondering what the cost is going to run me as well.

For 1200 miles just drive it, it's a one day drive if you can spend the time in the car. I've done 1300 miles from LA to Denver in 13 hours and it was not a problem, in a car that was just as stiff as my MCS is. Only mishap I had was a state trooper in Utah signaling to me that I should slow down. Considering I was doing 90+ at the time probably not a bad idea.

1300 miles in 13 hours means you had to average 100MPH the entire time. I think you are fudging a bit on that time

Oops, that you are correct. Sorry that should read 1300 miles in 15 hours, wasn't looking to closely as I typed. Would have been great time if it was 13 hours though.

still great

not that I doubt - but sadly, I was a math major.

If in that total 15 hour trip, your stops for gas and potty totaled no more than 60 minutes (3 stops of 20 min average) that means you drove for 14 hours which required an average speed of 1300/14 or 92.8 miles per hour. Couple the fact that gas was required every ~ 400 miles and the stop/start requires de/accelleration therefore to achieve the average you must actually be going faster than that & you're still presenting rather amazing numbers....
