Discontinued Delta Spokes and/or Order Mixup?

Skinny - I ordered my MINI with Deltas and it arrived with 5 spoke rockets which I don't like. My MA appears to be grungingly working on a remedy. I'm 800 miles from the dealer and asked for a wheel swap at my local dealer (not gonna happen), refund or something. I'm giving him some time before escalating it to MINIUSA customer service.
I ordered it on June 28th it was AT on 12 July. I changed the color on the 29th.
At first my MA said they were discontinued probably between my order date and production.
Then he said they probably grabbed PW/PW already on the assembly line to build mine which already had the 5 spokes so they didn't swap them.
He also said that if I hadn't changed my color less than a day after I ordered it that I probably would have got Deltas which makes no sense if they were discontinued

If they were discontinued, I would have opted for Holies, but wasn't given the option. Even though it's a $0 option, the key word is option.

I love everything else about my MC, best car I've ever owned, but these wheels have to go.

So doesn't anyone know if and when they were discontinued? Did anyone take delivery of a MC with Deltas after PW27? What do you think happened?

Wow, sorry to hear about that. I opted for delta spokes last minute as well! I actually had to call and email several times going through other MAs to make sure i got a final confirmation of my order and my changes to it. Did your dealer fax your a confirmation or anything with delta spokes on it? I'm assuming they did. I hope MINI USA takes care of you.

The R96 Delta-spoke are 15" wheels and the R83 5-star are 16" wheels. The R83 wheels are included in the Sport Package or a $600 option. Were you charged for them?

He may have meant the 15" 5 spoke Rocket (R93):

Sounds like a screw up. When did you order? My dad just got an MC w/Delta spokes in July.

Crusoe: I ordered my MC on the same day as you IIRC. I ordered and received the 15" delta spokes. There was no discussion of it being a discontinued, or soon to be discontinued, option. I was in PW28.
If you log into the order tracking section of the miniusa site, you should be able to see what the factory has on record for your order. Under review order detail, factory ordered options, mine still has "15"" Alloy Wheels, Delta Spoke" [sic] listed. And this info comes from miniusa, not the dealer.

I like the deltas, I try to order most of our "non sport package" Coopers with them. I don't think they are discontinued though.

Love our delta spokes on the Cooper. Rare to see them out and about though. . .

I got the 5 spoke rockets not the 5 star 16s, sry for the confusion. My MA didn't ever send me a confirmation and I checked my order summary and they're not showing there. I think I remember seeing the deltas on there from the initial order before the color change though.

I'm guessing when my MA changed my color he had to submit a full rebuild and forgot the Deltas.

Good to know the discontinued story is line of crap.

We'll see how this turns out.
Thanks all!

Hi Crusoe,

I'm in the same boat as you, I think, or about to be. I too ordered the delta spokes, but when I checked the order online, it listed the 5 spoke rocket wheels instead. I called my MA back late Thursday, left a message. I didn't hear back on Friday or Saturday (might be his days off), but on Friday, my status moved from "On Order" to "Scheduled for Production". I'm not sure if this means it is too late to correct this at the factory level - does anyone know?

I was under the impression that the online list of options might just list the 5 spoke rockets as a default setting for the wheels, until I read Mervyn's post. I'm hoping that they can order the deltas separately - I really do prefer them to the rockets.

MINI29, sounds to me like you may be stuck with the rockets if you don't get with him asap. 112 or scheduled for production status is still changable but not for long.

Thanks for the advisory, JohnMonk. I just left another message for him; hopefully he'll get back to me tonight. Everything just moved so fast on this. I ordered the car on Tuesday, and Thursday was the first day my production code worked in the Owner's Lounge. Then by Friday, it moves from "On Order" to "Scheduled for Production"? Compared to other wait times I've read on these boards, I feel like my order is breaking speed records.

Wow, I really must be in the minority!! I love the 5-star rockets and knew I wanted them right away. I really don't like the holies, and the delta spokes look too much like my current Honda wheels - so I wanted something completely different...

However, I'm really nervous since I forgot to specifically ask for them so they weren't on my order. In the catalogue it says holies are standard, while online and my MA said the 5-star rockets are now standard... So, I'm really hoping I DO have the 5-star rockets and not the holies

The MINI USA configurator still shows the Delta Spokes as a $0 option

Love mine, but have some nasty corners that demand a Q tip to clean.

There's really no ryme or reason at times. I have had cars that aren't supposed to go into production for two or three weeks get pulled. Usually that makes happy customers though. Good luck with your wheels, by the way if you can't get ahold of your MA, ask for his manager and have him check your order.

Well, I got a call back from my MA today. He did say that my car was too far into the production cycle to make the change, but he didn't sound concerned. He said they would just switch the rims with a car on their lot when mine comes in. That sounds pretty reasonable to me, as long as the deltas weren't on a car that somebody test drove into the curbs repeatedly - not that they'd try to hand off a car to me like that anyway. We'll see what happens. Thanks for all your input, JohnMonk!

mini-mine - it's funny, it seems like we have opposite wheel style tastes. The deltas were the only wheel choice that I really liked, and that's partially because they remind me of the rims on my current car (although the bridge spoke would be a closer match). 7 spoke rims just don't seem to be all that common, for some reason...

It turns out the factory chose for me. They had a car already into production that could still be built with all the options that I wanted. Since the wheels are a no cost option and the car was "rolling" they didn't swap them out.
My MA has offered to send me some other dealer accessories I was considering and that's fine.

Got to order my 15" Konig Rewinds and decide on a tire.
