Is it easy to replace manual shift ****?

Hi,

I might be purchasing a used mini cooper and was wondering if it's easy to replace the stock manual shifting know. The one that is on there has some scratches on it.

If it's easy, how much does a new factory standard **** cost? Just the **** itself... not the boot. Also is it easy to replace? Thank you!

Yes, it just pulls straight up, and off. Just needs a little tug.

Maybe you should consider getting a whalen shifter: www.whalenshiftmachine.com

Make sure you look at Whalen. Doug is a great guy and also does many custom shifters

If you straddle the lever try not to smack yourself in the nuts when it lets go. And whatever you do don't use a claw hammer like MINIotaple did.

I try this a couple of times and finally all hell breaks loose and I lose hold of the hammer and it's flying and monkeys are flying out of the transmission's rear. In the aftermath, I get a chance to look. The socket is off. Hooray. Then I look to the right and laying right next to my head is the claw-side of the hammer... :impatient One inch and I could've been eyeless of even lifeless.

sit over your brake lever (not on it you fool ) take both hands on
the ****, put your wrist over your knees and use your heels to push up.

it takes some force, but it will come off.

if you just pull it up, you'll end up hitting your forehead with it.

I just put my driver's seat all the way back, put the car in 2nd gear and pulled. Came off without much difficulty.

The boot is easy to replace too.

I just pull up no extra tricks here. A factory **** off ebay, will be the most cost effective method. Or call Classic MINI for a discount off of the $50 MSRP. Or you can go Whalen (highly reccomended by many many MINI owners) Also MOMO and JCW have options to fit a MINI.
