If i remember correctly it's just grab and pull. The directions that came with the shelf should tell you everything you need to know...

Now as far as lining the shelf brackets up with the existing ones... well... that is a different story. All I can tell you is make sure you don't have any hammers or large blunt objects within arms reach as you try and get it in there for about 15-30 minutes.

Actually very easy

This was the first thing I did on my now departed MC (replaced with an S

There should be instructions with it.
1) simply grab the old knee bolster near the steering column and pull it straight downwards...IT TAKES A BIT OF MUSCLE.

It will then fold down so you can unhook the 3 hinges (1 is reversed so be carefull here)

Putting in the new shelf requires you to put in 2 screw holders (a pain) and the new shelf snaps into into these (why they chose not to use the original snap in connections is beyond me!)

Just take your time!

I just installed the Euro tray in Ivy on Tuesday. I was having no end of trouble with the screw holders until it occurred to me to hold them in place with a bit of tape. Once I did that it went in just fine. I blogged about it and took some pictures of the installed tray. http://themindofblackjack.blogspot.c...-mini-mod.html

Of course, I completely forgot to take any 'before' or 'in process' pictures. D'oh.

I had this converstion with a friend. And i think it has to do with build tolerance. If they tried to make the shelf attachable with the factory clips the shelf would have to be made with a significant amount of accuracy with very little deviation. I think this way with the screw mounts they can make it fairly sloppily and still have it work for everyone.

erik

p.s. glad you got it and glad i could help.

but the driver's knee bolster that is supplied for the NA market is worth building to such higher tolerance?

I painted the switch blank that goes in the upper left hand corner to match my dashboard. You can, too.

You can also get it from OutMotoring.
http://www.outmotoring.com/euro_parcel_tray.html - and that link has a handy how-to (with pictures!) for installing the tray. The one thing they don't mention is that the screw mounts don't stay in place very well. I highly recommend using a bit of tape to hold them in place.

Since the switch cutout in the Euro Parcel tray apparently does not fit the optional factory driving lights switch - where did you all end up mounting it instead? Pics? Thanks...

Apparently you can bend the tabs of the driving light switch a bit so it fits - saw that somewhere on NAM, maybe from Greatbear? Greatbear knows all.

Another source for the shelf is Classic MINI. bmwparts@classicautocampus.com - tell them you're with NAM and get 20% off.

It will fit, but I think you have to Dremel the hole out a little.

Euro Parcel Tray Color

I've been considering adding this for a while now, but just wasn't sure how the color would match. I have the Anthracite interior and I don't want to purchase this if it will stand out like a sore thumb once installed. Can anyone with an anthracite interior offer comments on the color match??? Thanks!!!

Hey Jim, I've got an anthracite interior & the euro shelf matches fine. IMO it's a must have. Go for it!

There is no issue with color match. The Euro shelf is the same color as the knee bolster that it replaces. In that part of the interior, all MINIs have the same color no matter which interior option the car has. It is the universal "Panther Black" color plastic/vinyl like the glovebox, door sills, top of dash, shift/brake center console, etc.

Worth every penny, in my opinion. I just wish I would have bought mine sooner. Only negative: sometimes not the easiest installation. Not really difficult, just sometimes getting the screw lined up can be a PIA.

I put my sunglasses on it, also have a cig lighter installed in it to power my ipod, and can throw the ipod there when I want it to be less conspicuous. Euro shelf rocks!

Anything not heavy can slide around or fall out.
Anything light might stay put.

I have my garage door opener. I also have a coiled up 5 foot cord of monster cable hooked up to my headunit to give me MP3 player aux input capability.

Other stuff that might fit-
Hat- rolled up
Umbrella
snack or mints
Anything in a small plastic container
Sunblock
Mace
Sunglasses in a case
CD holder

Where to get mounting hardware?

OK, I have the trey but unable to locate mounting hardware. Local dealer said they do not carry it, any suggestions? From the DIY foto’s, hardware looks like fairly common (multi purpose) parts.

I got my tray from Classic MINI and they included all the mounting hardware. You can order the hardware from them or refer your dealer to this diagram for the part numbers: http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...51&hg=51&fg=30

However, it should work fine if you improvise with parts from the hardware store.
