Somethin had to happen in 1800 miles

Six days ago i drove out to Indiana to visit a sybling at notre dame, the way there is smooth no problem. Yesterday i left at about 11AM and took Route 90 East to hit Albany and go South to get back to NYC.
Around 2 O'clock im going through ohio, almost at the ohio/pennsylvania border and a trucker a lane over and 40 feet ahead of me has a blow out.
I mean BAM and im goin wtf and then i see a bit of his tire flying at my windshield its hit at a combined speed of probably 100 miles an hour. Swirving to avoid the bigger chunk coming at me i got out of the way.
Drove up next to the truck and made sure the driver was ok with his wave i moved on to the next exit. While refueling i look it over and this chunk of tire actually hit the exact top of my hood scoop and bent it upward and left a scuff mark and then bounced onto my windshield. So the upper part of my hood scoop is now almost 1/4 in above the rest of the hood and theres a thick bit of rubber on my hood.

I talked to MINI of Manhattan and they said they should be able to replace it under warranty. Ok great for that, little frustrated but ok. I'll have some pics of the damage up tomorrow, to dark right now.
Happy Motorin

Why is it under warranty? Sounds like an insurance matter rather than a defect in the product.

I'd say getting by with only a damaged hood scoop is quite a lucky thing! It could have been MUCH worse! How cool of the dealership to take care of it for you....props to them!

Yeah, no kidding. That's weird. Lucky for you, anyway, I guess.

I dunno, maybe the hood scoops supposed to be able to take some force before it bends, it might be cause the clips that hold it at the top snapped and they consider that weak factory production/quality?

Glad you're both OK. Nice of the dealer to take care of it for you w/out any insurance paperwork! Less paper is always better.

Yes, you ARE very funny. Same thing happened to my cousin's MINI. It was in the shop for a month getting repaired, which included a left tire, and front bumper.

Leave it alone folks around here pay extra for enlarged high flow hood scoops

This is the reason you never see BUG ETER around big rigs. If I come up to one I floor it to get past. If there are two blocking the way I drop back until an opening occurs. Glad to hear your dealer will square you away.
