Loaner Car

it's my understanding that as long as your mini is still under warranty and recieving warranty work a loaner car will be given to the owner of the car, or am i wrong here?

also post 100!

That is correct. If they think it will take more than an hour or so, they will provide a loaner car IF it is warranty or maintenance work.

Oh, and congrats on post 100!

alright, thank you, i tried to get my car serviced today, but the SA i had was trying to convince me i had to have purchsed the car at the dealer for a loaner, and i called BS and left, after sharing my opinion, and the fact that as a customer i was supposed to recieve a loaner car

Not trying to step on toes here, but loaner cars are a dealer provided courtesy, not something from MINI. It is entirely up to the individual dealer whether they give you a car, provide shuttle service, or none of the above.

alright, well thats what the guy was trying to tell me so i guess he has won a little, but he was still an ********* to me, and i think when he saw i made a 40 mile drive to their dealer in place of trhe dealer thats like 10 miles away form me, he could have maybe given me the beenfit of the doubt, or atleast pretended to talk to somebody to get em a loaner, even if he had no intention fo truly trying to get the car for me

ill post the line to my full experience from sunshine minis, clearly soem of the facts are a little off since i guess if your right he was slightly right about me having to have bought the car at the dealer for the loaner, but it still doesnt excuse him for treating me like *****

I have gotten a during-the-day loaner from a dealer that I didn't buy from. Also I can't get a loaner from the dealer I bought from because they don't offer loaners to lowly Minis, they only offer loaners to "BMW" customers

Offering loaners is totally up to the dealer. Some do, some don't. Plain & simple Call ahead & ask.

The only time every dealer will be required to give you a loaner or rental car is if they cannot finish your repair & have to keep your Mini overnight. (I don't consider waiting for a window motor to be an overnight repair. An overnight repair would be one where your Mini cannot physically be driven off the property because it is in mid-repair not one where your are just waiting on a part)

i was told itd probably need to be overnighted, and it would definitely not be ready by the time i needed to leave to go to work so i can continue to drive and afford the car
but the loaner car, isnt quite my problem (i mean its a problem for sure, but i understand now its the dealers choice) but its was the way the SA treated me that really drew the line

In that case the only thing you can do is complain to the owner of Sunshine Mini & never buy another vehicle from them. I will not buy from Hank Aaron again for the exact same loaner reason.

But I really don't see how replacing a window motor is an 2-day job.

well sunshine minis is the local club, vista is the dealer, which i am planning on compalining to and never going to again, but i was not surprised the window motor would need overnighting becuase i really didnt think theyd have a window motor in stock, in fact i even said to the guy id imagine youll need to order the window motor, and he said i dont know, but i wouldnt be surprised, or something to that extent, plus the there were a few other minis in front of me, plus the car had a few other problems that needed to be adressed (like my door never staying open, some squeaks) and the scheduled service

See though, waiting on a part is totally different than having your Mini mechanically torn down. You can drive your Mini around while waiting on the window part to come in so while the rudeness was uncalled for I don't think they owed you a loaner while they overnighted the part.

My convertible top broke & would not open. I drove 165 miles to my nearest dealer (your 40 mile drive seems pretty miniscule to me ) & they had to order the part. It took 3 days to get the part & I don't feel like they owed me a loaner during those 3 days. When I drove back the repair was going to take 2 days so they gave me a loaner since my Mini would not be drivable for 1 night. All totalled I drove around 990 miles for my repair so your drive wasn't so bad

wow, that sucks, but thats major dedication, but also its rainy season in SFL, and no garage plus an open window in the rain, only creates more problems

Ahhh I didn't catch that your window was stuck in the down position. That makes a difference. If they couldn't get your window in an upright position. They owed you a loaner for the night or they should have at least rigged your window hole so water could not get in. I would call Miniusa on that one

It all depends on the dealer. The dealer that I go to now is not the dealer I bought my MINI from but it is closer and just easier to get to because I don't have to deal with very much traffic. Anyways, the dealer that I take it to now always gives me a nice BMW to drive...no questions asked. Its usually a 1 week to 2 week waitto get your car in for service but I am cool with that. This last time around I took there loaner (325i) to a MINI event with my local club and still had fun in the twisties!

It all comes down to the dealer....

well its sort of stuck, its fritzing. first time it was stuck down i just took the key out and restarted the car, and it worked again, but yesterday, when i opened the door it went down as it should, but while the door was still opened it went back up that little bit (to insure a nice seal in ThE door) so the door couldnt close, and if it did rain it wasnt fully sealed so rain could get in. after about a half hour of driving with my door not fully closed, the window dropped a little and started working again, and today its doing fine, but with it being rainy, and the door not being able to fully close if the window pulls yesterdays event again, i really would rather them hold onto the car to insure its safety. i dont know now i still have it and prob cant get it in until next saturday and am just going to try avoiding using it as much as possible this week

It does depend on the dealer. At my dealership, when you purchase your car you sign an agreement that states that you understand that they do not give loaners for repair work. But the dealership that is closer to my house does.
