Hey gang,

In my never-ending quest for the seat choice that's right for me, I'm wondering how those with leather seats like the lumbar support. Over time, have you found it truly supportive and helpful? Of is it more of a gimmick that doesn't get used or isn't really helpful. I test drove an MCS with leather and lumbar and it didn't scream out to me as a necessity, but that was just for the duration of a test drive. Did anyone buy leather solely for the lumbar?

Thanks,
Craig

I can't say that I bought the leather _just_ for the lumbar support, as I prefer my cars with leather interiors anyway. However, I have a weak back, and have had back surgery within the last 14 months so definately needed the lumbar support.

I think the lumbar does help me out, I leave it cranked pretty much all the way out. I wics it were a little lower in the seat though. I've had the car 4 weeks, and have only been on one longish trip, but the seating was comfortable and I didn't have any back (or leg) pain after 4 hrs in the car.

Hope it helps.

I have the lumbar on my lapsi!
On my old Subary Outback wagin, I needed the lumbar as otherwise the seats would have been not supportive enough. So, I got the lumbars (leather) seats on my 03 MCS. Now that I have it, most of the time I have it dialed way back or even all the way back, otherwise it sticks out too much. If the non-leather seats have the same type of bolster in the back as the adjustable ones have when dialed fully back, I could easily live with non-adjustable ones. Now that I have them, it is nice however on long drives to be able to change the lumbar setting, which does help me avoid back fatigue.
Hope this helps,
Markus

I didn't buy leather solely for the lumbar support but I do like it. I picked up my car last weekend so I can't attest to the value over a long period of time. I am quite active and ski, climb 14'rs, etc... and quite often suffer from a bad lower back (herniated disk). The lumbar support helps immensely.

I also enjoy the black profile leather. So far, it's been a quality experience. Just my .02

a while back (over the winter) i had hurt my lower back and couldn't get comfortable any which way (sitting, standing, lying down)
i got in my "S" cranked up the lumbar support and turned on the heated seats and i was in heaven for the day (200miles)

The mini seats seem okay at first sitting but if you do anykind of "spirited" driving you will find the stock, including the sport seats, to be lacking support. (I have the sport /leather) If I had it to do over I would buy the cheapest seat I could and buy aftermarket seats soon after getting the car. I still may, but I can't rationalize the extra $ yet. The lumbar is a minor help.

IMHO, the lumbar support and the leather smell are the only two things that had me seriously considering leather over leatherette. Unfortunately, I could only get the Panther Black Profile Leather (that nubby stuff) in my PS/B Cooper - and I just couldn't get over the odd look and feel of it, so my decision was made easy.

All I can say is, too bad you can't get the lumbar support with the leatherette...

I use my lumbar support all the time and find it makes a big difference, especially on long trips. I just came back yesterday from a 3 1/2 hour drive and my back feels fine!
