Messed up 1 bonnet stripe - does dealer cover these?

And if they dont, I assume just getting 1 bonnet stripe replaced should be pretty cheap and quick right?

just got my car last nite and i was just walking around checking it out and noticed that the pass side bonnet stripe had some like glue/sticky stuff on the edge of it. about an inch or so of it, so i decided to grab a microfiber towel with some hot water and rub it off, and managed to rub the black right off the bonnet stripe

i mean i imagine its pretty cheap if i do have to buy a new one, but it kinda sucks that it messed up like that so easily. you think the dealer will just slap a new on there for me?

I have embedded water spots on my &*$%# black bonnet stripes and the dealer said NO it's "environmental" damage, not covered. these damn things are the highest-mtce items on my S, more so than the black roof.

But they look so cool.....

Ya know there's a good chance that that gluey sticky stuff was Cosmoline left over from the shipping process, it gets lodged in the windshield washer jets and trim chrome and can be a messy nuisance. I'd still run it by your dealer to get it replaced.

Stripes are a standard OEM part. See http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...49&hg=51&fg=95
By looking at the part numbers you may be able to just buy one stripe!

edited: I forgot. This SHOULD be covered by the warranty if its defective. Otherwise, if its your fault, your $.

Now, on the hand, you can try to pick up Forever Black at any auto store which says it works on Vinyl Surfaces (Black stripes, right?). Maybe smudge some of it in and try to blend it. I know it works great on the scuff marks and scratch on the black seat backs, never know there was a scruff mark there and my wife is VERY particular about these things

Best of luck!

First stripe for me coming, my MA today told me it would be covered under the warranty. Actually, I said,"these were put on in the factory, so they're covered under the warranty, right?" He affirmed.

When my husband got majorly dined on his side stripe, he used a black sharpie on it! You probably won't go that way; I'd see if it was still covered under warranty, and go through your MA instead of service first. They're the ones responsible for "perfect delivery" and are probably shooting for that exalted "5."

As an FYI, you CAN order a single stripe - just make SURE you order the one for the correct side - they are different, there is a Left and a Right side stripe and they are not interchangeable.

i think i paid like $35-45 each on the dealer ones. and yes, you can get
just one side. im sure the dealer will replace that for you at no charge
unless you dripped something on it that caused it to get gooey like that.

i just pulled my stripes off today. they have looked horrible since about a month after i bought the car. for some reason a lot of rocks hit the stripes and were leaving a lot of white spots showing through the silk screen on the stripe. it looked like i had bugs all over my stripes at all time.

they are gone now. i may put on a solid colored stripe in the future. only time will tell.

if i was you i would in vest in some magnetic stripes that way you can take them off and put them on when you feel like it and they won't ruin. also they hold up to rocks a little better that the vinyl ones you get from the dealer. they cost about $29 at moss motors.
