I love mine and I think it is the best armrest available.

It was used as MINI official armrest until they came up with their own model last year.
x3

We have them in 2 of our cars and if I could find another at a used price (sorry John ) I'd ****** it up in a heart beat I have no problems with shifting my MCS with the arm rest in the down position. As shown in the photo, lot's of clearance between the shifter and the armrest

Anyone selling theirs?

Same with mine. If I leave it open a little after pulling my gum package out, it may slide open. Otherwise it's great.

If someone misses having an armrest in their Mini, I suggest getting it. I had mine installed by the dealer when I purchased my car. (If I were to do it again, I would install it myself.) BTW, I have a 2006 6spd MCS, and I shift constantly without every running into the arm rest.

I do agree with a previous post that this arm rest is a little low. But I will sometimes put my arm on the passenger seat if I need to rest on something a little higher (esp if someone I really like is in that seat ).

The OEM armrest does take away from the rear cup holder, but I simply push it up and out of the way if I need to use that holder.

Oh, the OutMotoring arm rest is really cool. I would probably have gone that route if I had seen it prior to getting the OEM installed.

I've had my arm rest in for over 2 years now, never got in the way of shifting, never even thought about it. It has been in there for many track days, and it never got in the way, and other people have driven my car on the track and no one complained.

Can't remember where I got mine, but it does go in the rear cup holder, but I like the way it reflects the curve of the door trim.

here it is with the sport seats, which happen to be pushed forward in this pic, not sure why, but the seats are actually back much further.

Here it is with the stock seats, you get a better picture of it. The top portion slides back and forth and locks into place, forward or back. I keep it forward.

Seems to me a pair of small magnets, one mounted on the bottom of the cover and the other mounted on the inside frame of the armrest would keep the cover closed and latched even with arm movement while shifting. I have thought about doing this myself but I am not sure how to proceed. I have considered crazy gluing the cover shut, but like others have commented, there is so little storage room as it is that losing even 20 cubic inches would be missed./quote]

I think you just need to combine the two ideas. Go to Michael's or Leewards or a craft shop, get the adhesive magnet rolls which have mediocre stick ability, cut them into an appropriate shape, and krazy glue them on. Maybe even a few at different points. Of course, my mini is still awaiting transport, so I haven't actually seen the armrest latch. I might be of no help whatsoever! Haha.

This is a great topic as almost every website I have gone to looking for an arm rest fail to tell you what the armrest is made of..

I have a really sharp leather interior and I do not wnat to put plastic or vinyl in it.

I have the Cordoba Beige sport seats and want to find an armrest that has matching black leather and storage.

What is the best you've found for those needs?

The OEM Armrest in at least the 06, does not block the rear cup holder.

I have this one, it's definitely the way to go if you can. It latches shut, opens hinged at the back instead of sliding, doesn't compromise the rear cupholder at all, is MINI OEM (although not in US or anywhere right now for that matter). I got this when they first came out from one of the German dealerships, installed it myself, and really like it. When I am shifting a lot, I just fold it back, when I'm cruising, I put it down. Works great!

This is the OEM armrest here in the states:

The top slides back to open. There's no catch or clasp, just a bit of interference fit which quickly loosens up.

My arm rest was standard with the package I order on my MC 06 5 speed, the first 2 weeks I drove the car it was in my way when I shifted and the top slide was always open.
I got used to driving stick again and I love the arm rest specially in the highway, I guess you just have to get used to it.
I love the storage space for my change

Supposedly the German OEM armrest I have can still be bought from Baum Automobile in Germany for 119 Euro (about $150).
