Well, it kind of depends.

It may be difficult to shift while resting on the arm rest, but while cruising, I dont see why not.

Who makes a good armrest that doesn't ruin the rear cupholder? Since it's the only holder that will host even a 20oz bottle, I need to still use it!

Depends on how far forward your seat is positioned. I have short legs, so my seat is forward enough so that none of the armrests in the MINI market let me rest more than the very tip of my elbow on it (which isn't comfortable). Really sucks.

What I need is an armrest that extends as far forward as the button of the parking brake. None of them do (as far as I know). If I could find one that extended that far, I'd buy it in a heartbeat.

armrest

stop no don't get it.......
I have a 2006 with the 5 speed and my car is came with the arm rest.
I have it up and pushed out of the way (ALWAYS). I believe if your car was automatic it would be fine. But with manual transmission its always in the way

I think this is as close as it gets to reaching the end of the parking brake with an armrest. I made these available for sale today at Minifini.com It is approximately 10” high, 16” long and 4.5” wide and looks factory installed.

That's very true when driving around town where you're shifting a lot. Some of our trips are a lot of interstate driving, and keeping it in 6th gear. That armrest will be handy.

I have the $200 factory armrest and the only problem that I have with it is that I often inadventently open the compartment as I get into the car. It doesn't get in my way at all while driving around town, but I don't really use it much aside from when sitting at a red light. It is very nice for highway driving. All goes to personal preference I suppose. I'm glad I have it. And the compartment is a great place to store some napkins.

Outmotoring.com has an armrest that retains the rear cup holder. It's designed by Outmotoring and is adjustable. Looks great too!!

Achtung...no rest for the Mini...Ja...rest for Mini!

Hey, I researched and found a MINI armrest I liked and have just ordered in it. Though initially, when I inquired at MINI was told it was not available here in the states. MIKE My MINI parts guy, hates dead-ends like me and found over 800 of them 'resting' in Germany So, he ordered one in. I will check it out on Monday.

Is it this one? Here's the original German OEM armrest. I can shift while resting my elbow on it.

I have the OEM arm rest from MINI. I rest my arm and shift all the time. However, the only thing is that it opens by sliding the cushioned top part back, so sometimes< I accidently open it if my elbow hits the thing in the right spot.

Factory armrest. Glad I have it. If I really need to I can flip it up out of the way but that's almost never. I too tend to knock it "open" but I like the storage space. I keep my gas receipts, bug scraper and pens in there.

I know what you mean when you say that you like the storage space. For some reason I find that I don't have too many places to put things in the mini than other cars.

I like my 'Elbow Landing Device' that was about $50 from TVA or Gotmini...easy to install, looks and works well, and does not affect using the rear cupholder....I velcroed my garage door opener inside the brackets too so it is out of sight...very simple, cheap, and small profile so it doesn't jump out at you

I've gone 9 months without an armrest (though my original config included the factory one) and I really haven't missed it much. I generally just rest my right forearm on my right leg, maybe it's just the way I'm built that it works out well that way. I suppose one would be nice if on the highway for long periods of time in top-gear but I haven't experienced that yet.

Can you get the factory arm rest after you bought the car and have it installed and looking the same without messing anything up or carving?

Does anyone have a photo of how the factory armrest affects the rear cupholder? Thanks!

MINI-Fini armrest rocks!!

Built quality is awesome, the fitting is better than you would expect, and it is an high-quality part...

I love mine and I think it is the best armrest available.

It was used as MINI official armrest until they came up with their own model last year.

,,..Someone, ANYONE, make a kit to solve this...

For the life of me I don't understand why the latch on the armrest cover is a tiny little plastic thing that couldn't possibly hold the cover in place unless the car is heading down a 75 degree hill.

Seems to me a pair of small magnets, one mounted on the bottom of the cover and the other mounted on the inside frame of the armrest would keep the cover closed and latched even with arm movement while shifting. I have thought about doing this myself but I am not sure how to proceed. I have considered crazy gluing the cover shut, but like others have commented, there is so little storage room as it is that losing even 20 cubic inches would be missed.

I would hand over $50 in a heartbeat if someone came up with a kit that was easy to install that solved this problem.

I sold my 10AE Miata to order a MCC. I had added an aftermarket soft pad to the rest in the Miata and loved it. The MINI armrest is useless in my opinion--too low and too far back--if ordering today I would not get it. My 2 cents.

The factory armrest fits me fine. I have issues with the fact it will not stay shut! There's no clasp of any kind to keep the thing closed. Very cheap in design an manufacture, I would have expected more from them.

I've had almost the exact opposite experience: my OEM armrest cover is extra tight and requires some effort to open. Go figure.
