We have a CVT and 16" run-flats but here it goes. We usually get ~28.8mpg and out average speed is 31.9mph. I do a lot of city driving. When we go out on trips 100% highways we have gotten 38.8 for a while but then went down to 34 we cruise at abiut 65-70mph.

Hope this helps

cadmann.....the cvt is great!

i can't say that my mpg is as good as the above, but
it's not bad....
city about 20-24
highway 30-32.
i have 16" wheels with run-flats!

i did have a few quirks with it, but nothing that a software update didn't fix!
it's a great car, my wife loves it!
the main reason i got the cvt was for her!
my next one, i'll get a S!
we'll keep the cvt for her!

if you get a new one, you won't have any of those "quirks"!
there was a little lurching at low speed.
it also had the cold start issues..
since having my dme updated to 32.1, it's had no problems whatsoever!
i really like the cvt, it's much more fun than you would expect!
steptronic mode is great on the highway...
do a search for cvt on MCO, you'll find a ton of info...

I bought my MINI in April 2002. It's a CVT and I haven't run into any quirks (or pedestrians for that matter).
But seriously folks....what quirks?

2003 CVT 16" Runflats
Location: Chicago
Gasoline: Premium 93 (Amoco Fuels)
Driving Style: 2 to 4 RPMS
Type of Driving: True City Driving (Stop and Go with avg. speed of 12 mph - based on computer)
MPG: 14 to 18 (In my opinion pretty bad) 100% True City Driving (City driving to me is defined as stop and go)
Highway Driving: Not Accuratedly Tested, but based on my experience about 28 mpg.

CVT is nice, if you live in a big city, where shifting would be more troublesome. It is fun, however, having the option to play with all three modes while driving (e.g., full throtle in normal mode - then shifting immediately to sport mode - then when getting to about 60 down shifting to 5th gear and then back to 6th)
Hope that helps.

I can't give separate numbers because my driving is always a mix. But, I have averaged right around 29MPG for mixed city/hwy with the 15" 8-holes.

I average only slightly less, about 28MPG for mixed city/hwy, with the 16" run-flats.

With a HEAVY foot, I tend to be down nearer to 26MPG (mixed again.)

I have no idea what it would be with a LIGHT foot!
