Welcome to the first meeting of the club for those of us (and lately there have been FAR too many!) who have had our pepper white babies so rudely violated -- and for those who sympathize.

Blanche was rear-ended several weeks ago when a pickup truck rolled into her at a stoplight. Cracked her lower bumper panel, the jerk! Thankfully, she's all fixed up now. But every time I hear about another Mini getting into a scrape -- and especially one of my PW pals -- I get mad all over again!

Just thought I'd offer some solace -- and solidarity!

There was a thread sometime back about which MINI color was the safest/easily seen. Hmmm, I wonder were PW rated. Seriously...sorry for your bad luck.

Unfortunately, you have to count me on for this club.

My wee PW beaut was rearended pretty hard by a pickup truck on feb 10th, and is still in the shop!

When I get her back, I'm going to do the brake light mod to make everything even more safe, and hopefully avoid this kind of thing from ever happening again. (though i don't suspect that would have helped - the truck was going pretty fast).

I hope the membership is this club is very very low.

I was in a crash with my Dark Silver/Black MCS, does that count? Maybe we should start a "General Crash Club".

Thanks for remembering me L!

I too am an unfortunate member of the PW Crash Club... Picked up my MINI on 1/31, T-boned by a POS Corolla on 2/15, got my MINI back on 3/13! $8,000 in damage, and a month without my MINI... (She's as good as new, I might add!) I feel all your pain!

(happy to be motoring again!)

Can you tell me about the "good as new" part? My damage will be about the same amount, and i think there's no way it could be the same. Not that I doubt you at all, but I worry that mine won't be. Any way you can reassure me?

Thanks.

I was really worried that she wouldn't look right, sound right, or feel right... She was pretty messed up! I went over it with a fine tooth comb, and I can't find anything different. No gaps in the body work, no weird rattles, hums, or pings... No alignment problems... They really did a phenomenal job!
In fact the only think that's different about her, is the bonnet badge (a smaller S badge was installed because the initial idiot I was working with at the body shop didn't know there was a difference) and they installed the S bonnet stripes on her, instead of the MC stripes (I kinda like them better!).

So, have faith, if your MINI is at a MINI-approved body shop, I'm sure they'll do a great job! Let me know if there is anything else you need to know!

I assume you had frame damage, with a repair cost that high, correct? No worries about the frame bender making things close but not perfect?

Sorry to suggest causes for worries, I don't mean to. i sounds like everything is doing perfectly. I'm just paranoid, having not seen my car is many many weeks!

Believe it or not, the frame was fine... I had to have a lot of components replaced (new front axle, wiring harness, etc.) and a LOT of bodywork. I've had her back for almost 3 weeks now, and I seriously think she's fine. Call often for updates and be meticulous when you inspect her... Make sure they get it right the first time!

This info might be of interest to more than just me, so...

What all should one look for in inspecting a car after repairs?

Sorry for my ignorance, but i've never been in an accident that required any repairs before.

An old truth in driver training is that you steer in the direction you look. So, I would hypothesize that people are looking at the PWMC and therefore must really like that color (heh). Ah, the misfortunes of popularity.

Tony and others,
I don't have a Pepper White MINI, but I sympathize with all of you and those of other colors who have had their MINI violated
One question out of curiosity for those who have sustained substantial damage:
does this affect your car title, for example, does your title now say salvage vehicle? How does this affect your re-sale value? If you sell your car and somebody runs a car fax on it, it will show as having had a major accident!
The reason I bring this up is that on the roadfly board, there was a lady in Houston whose MINI was substantially damaged. She went through a major ordeal in having it repaired. She also mentioned something about getting not just her car fixed and repaired, but also (I hope I'm getting this right) getting reimbursed for the reduced resale value (from the insurance company of the driver who ran into her MINI). I think she had to file a special claim for that. For those who have had substantial damage, if you have not already done son, have this checked out! If you have checked this out, let us know, I'd be interested in hearing details.
Cheers,
Markus

A salvage title is issued if the insurance co claims the car as a total loss. In that case, you get reimbursed for the full value of your car (hopefully) and go get a new one. The insurance co then auctions the wreck off to body shops, etc with a "salvage" title. That designation stays on the title forever & diminishes its value.

Your point on the diminishment of value is well taken. I agree that on resale with a carfax search my car will be worth lees.

the lady I was refering to on roadfly goes by the screen name of Cat(Houston). If you want to follow up on the type of refund she got, try to page her on roadfly.
