So far, in the 3 months more or less I've owned the car, I've received three black boxes in the mail from Mini.

The first was filled with...well I don't remember, but it seemed like pretty useless promotional material. I even think a CD is in there for some reason.

The second arrived a month later, containing all the same stuff.

This week I got a slightly smaller one, which upon opening has another box inside which is designed to look like a fake book. You open it up and it has a hidden compartment, in which are OTHER strange things like 3D classes and some kind of decoder template that I'm supposed to put over some ad.

All goes into the trash. For you long time owners, is getting this stuff something that doesn't end? I feel like I keep getting prizes from a box of Cracker Jack, but without the cracker jack!

Will contacting Mini USA and requesting to not receive any more do the trick?

 

I got a total of 3 boxes from MINI after I bought my car. I also got a couple of nifty little packages during Christmas and New Years. I don't mind getting them though, I think it's fun. I guess you could call MINI USA and ask them to stop mailing you things like that.

 

If you don't want the stuff, try giving it away or selling it. Some of the stuff MINI sends you will suprise you with how much it goes for on eBay.

 

WTF? You don't want the stuff? OMG, seriously! I've never heard people complain about free stuff in their mailbox.

MINI has only ever sent me cool stuff... like a travel mug, journal, MINI pen, road trip bingo, and just the other day my black box came -- huzzah!

It's supposed to be... Fun

 

MINI mail is way better than credit card applications, atleast i can enjoy the MINI stuff. I like the journal and pen the most. Forgot the road trip bingo on my last road trip though. (duhhhh..)

 

If you don't want it, I'll take it. I don't get anything... I guess I'm not special

 

I'll PM you tonight or over the weekend. I'll check to see if the box is unmarred or unstained from being tossed in the trash.

Seriously? Cool! Just curious, how do you get the "special" rewards for being a mini owner? Do you have to contact Mini USA?

that's supposed to make you feel like you're part of a special community. If you consider it junk then it is, but there are those that don't take themselves quite so serious and just have fun with it. I've a feeling you know all this already. So why crap on it? Can't you just toss it out without the comments?

 

Got an email from Miniusa last night telling me about a decoder word for the latest secret box...problem is the key is in one of the magazines they list....have not gotten my little box yet but in reno...we still use pony Express! Still pretty good marketing from MINIUSA!

Down there, big fella. Yes, I like my mini. And yes, it's just a car to me. The two don't have to be mutually exclusive. It's my daily driver. Great fun, zippy, reasonably well screwed together, satisfactory gas mileage compared to my previous daily driver. Makes the drive more tolerable. I will enjoy it for as long as I own it, and probably won't pine much for it when it's gone a couple of years from now. Ok with you?

Getting this stuff in the mail certainly does not disrupt my life, not any more than any other junk mail, so it's no big deal. I just raised the question if this is something to expect going forward as part of the 'mini experience.' Sorry to rile up the tribe!

Junk mail are things wanting you to take out a new credit card or a sales circular for the local grocery store. NOT decorders and such.

But I never said anything about keeping it, I said why COMPLAIN about it. If you don't like it, you're one of the very few who doesn't and you just don't "get it" therefore just throw it away.

 

I wish that I kept all of mine unopened. It's the stuff like this which people open and use and toss which become collectors items.

 

You only get the "goodies" if you bought a new MINI from a dealership.

It's sad when folks don't get the whole MINI thing..........;<(

You can go to MINI USA and under "Get in the loop", pull down to "Become and Insider" and you can sign up there. MINI USA should already have your mailing address from when you bought the car, but you can sign up for e-mails.
