The Heat!

Its in the mid 90's here... that's around 38 celcius.

My mini a/c's been holding up lately but this week is the start of the summer heat wave. She'll be heading back to the dealership next week for the first service call. Several things done or to be fixed...

Should i opt for a convertible or stick with a hard top and enjoy the A/C?

Since it's just a short-term loaner... push for a convertible... you can always leave the top up (blasphemy!) and run the A/C anyway.

High heat and humidity are a fact of life down here in Miami. So far so good with the MINI's A/C.

Haha, good luck keeping cool with the convertible. With this heat, you'll wish you were back in your MCS. But, at least you have the option of raising the top back up again!

As soon as the top comes down that A/C is worthless, even when the car is stopped!

I haven't been outside yet today, but at 5:30pm yesterday, it was still 102-and that was not the heat index-here in Swampeast Misery(Ooops! I meant Southeast Missouri).

103 here, for the 5th day in a row. But, as they say, at least it's a dry heat! Still feels miserable to me.

I used to be more bothered by 95 degrees in Chicago, than 115 here in AZ. This heat is a cake-walk, I do not miss the humidity at all!

Actually, that moisture in the air can help a car develop more horsepower. Like a poor man's water injection unit.

Moisture (humidity) is of course water, which doesn't compress. When it enters the compression chamber of your cylinder head, it raises the compression pressure, which in turn causes more horsepower.

That's just the quick explaination.

I think you are a little out on that.Any engine develops more HP in cool dry air.The lower the humidity the more Hp is developed.

I had a Cabrio loaner for two weeks and loved going out in the evening. A nice warm night with the wind in your hair, ahhhhh!!!

A little out? More like way out. My MCS runs with much more gusto in cold, dry weather than hot and humid. Jimbo

lol, the black roof doesn't seem too bad, compared to the two all-black cars I've owned. My first new car - a 1986 Mustang - was black and had no AC! Talk about hell on wheels.

Blazing Hot here in Louisville. But I just put 35% 3M FX-HD window film all the way around. Seems to keep the a/c from working as hard.... Plus sun shades in the sunroof. At this point I'd sit on a block of ice if I thought it would help.
