R50/53 MCS Owner Poll: What do u think if the New MINI has extra ma

I noticed that you have a nav system symbol on your name thing over on the left,
What in the hell are you going to use an extra map light for?

At 120MPH if I'm lost I better pull over to read the map, Thats alot of exits to miss while I read/drive.

It would be good to have the map light a little forward of where it is now. I was navigating while my sweetheart drove the other day and nearly pulled my arm out of its socket reaching behind me to turn the light on. This with the seat set 'way back, too.
Though to be fair, I've never had a car with nearly as many convenience features as the MINI so I ain't complainin'!

Can't relate to the make-up, but I've got the MINI-approved halogen map light in my cigarette lighter outlet, and I use it quite frequently. It's great- strong light, easy to reach, plus nice flexibility- it can reach to light up either footwell and most of the front of the interior. I've got a single-to-double lighter outlet fixture, in case I need to charge my phone at the same time.
Does this conversation belong on the "off topic" thread, What are you people doing lighting up your footwells and putting on makeup while driving?

a) The map light is good for lots besides reading maps and applying makeup. It would be good for general illumination (from above) of the front seat area. Much better than the current dome light. More cars than not (e.g., the last Hundai I drove) have them.
b) Not living in Germany, I'd keep my 120mph speeds on the track where admittedly, a maplight would indeed be useless. Otherwise, Craig's second comment is useless.
So yes, I think an overhead MINI maplight would be a nice addition!

Nothing extra needed. The lighting is set up fine. They do make one of those map lights for plugging into the cig lighter if you need to light a map "down low" or just turn on the Nav system.
Even though I have the NAV, I find the lights come in handy in various low-light situations.
I think the existing layout is decent - but maybe not optimal. I have to admit to simply being used to the lights being mounted up nearer to the rearview mirror, so for that reason I wouldn't mind them being up there.
Additionally, however, I find that the light is sometimes "straining" to reach up to the front from their existing location. In order to get "more" light you need to reach the item you're trying to see up and backwards which is very awkward.
If the lights were mounted up front at least you could more easily move the object closer to the light.
All in all, I'm fine with the way it is - but wouldn't object if they were moved - then maybe point the original ones toward the back seats? (....you know, for the passengers that you frequently have back there for long trips that like to read at night?

this is one of my test subjects since i'm new and my MINI is coming soon. It seems most of the owners' feed backs have limited by my subject. A "Map Light" not only a "MAP" light. it has many handy functions. From all these answers, it seems like most of the owners are really love their MINIs, but try to be satisfy with what they own in a not quite free reality.
Map Light is something most cars starts to have and becoming handy for most drivers. It is also something i feel MINI should have based on all these great features which have already equiped on.
Be reasonable, but not......
