I hope this thread is not going to get into locked territory (with stories of Those Guys being humiliated). One thing you might propose next time you get challenged - is a wager based on actual results at the track. Find a track with a road course that is to the MINIs advantage (lots of real tight turns) and then take the best time out of three with the loser paying the track rental fee. If you know how to drive your car (and you accept challenges from people with cars having wider turning circles), you will get some real enjoyable experiences on someone else's dime. Be warned that at some point, the word will get out in the Those Guys community, and the challenges will stop after a few losing runs.

 

I thought the guy driving a honda civic (prob. modded) behind me was drunk- he was weaving back and forth, driving on the shoulder, fast, slow, until I could see in my rear view mirror that he was eargerly wanting me to try and outrun him. I was still under 1250 miles, had my girl in the pass. seat, and anyway was not interested in rising to his bait. I thought he was going to crash he was so eager to race me. I mean kicking up rocks on the shoulder!

 

As caminifan commented, let's not get into a discussion of illegal street racing as folks post about the "funny stories." Any discussions of extralegal, dangerous incidents will be locked, per the Site Guidelines.

Yes, let's not get into that. And use some common sense on the road. You did the right thing with your daughter in the car, etc.
If you avoided toying with this guy even if you were alone, you would be THE man in my book. Anybody that crazy to race is a bit unstable.
He might seriously cause an accident due to emotion overuling reasoning.
People that chase you down to race have already burdened themselves with a handicap. Spare them further embarrassment, and yourself a ticket.

Driving smart and cool can make you the biggest winner. Does not mean you can't have fun...but let the fools rush in.....

What I have done when I have been challenged by someone in a Mustang to race my Corvette, is to offer to take them on at Infineon with the provision that the loser pays the track fees and has to drive around for a month with a sign that says I was spanked by a Corvette. I then proceed to show them my best timeslip (12.35 & 121.25) and that usually shuts them up. I did have one taker, and they were at least a good enough loser to drive around with the sign taped to their rear window.
