R50/53 My first friendly MINI salute!!
I know there are a few posts on here about people who acknowledge or don't acknowledge other MINIs on the road. Well, this morning I had my first after 4 months of motoring.
I was so excited I don't remember if it was a white top or a black top, but it was yellow. It was on the corner of Tuckerman Lane and Old Georgetown Road in Maryland. He was on Old Georgetown Road and he made a U-turn at the light, and ended up smack behind me.
He flashed his lights and I turned on my rear wiper (talk about flirting
). I know I'm sappy, but it was a nice feeling especially since I was stuck in traffic for a long time, and I have a sinus headache that makes me want to cry.
I hope everyone else has a great motoring day.

Congrats! Last night I was driving home from work, and came up behind a pw/b on the motorway. I slowly creeped up next to him and started honking. At first he was startled but then looked over and a HUGE smile came over his face and he started honking and flashing his lights like crazy!
Ah, the MINI acknowledgements. The joys of motoring.
We were going to lunch one day and saw a yellow MINI w/black top coming towards us. We were stopped at a light facing opposite directions. I'm shy and didn't know how to acknowledge this guy. My husband gives this well-dressed business man the GOAT!!! And, yes - we got the goat back.... Ain't life grand??

I got the one finger salute from a woman in a Z4....
I was on my BMW R1100R(motorcycle) and the bridge was up
so I pulled off the side of the road in the shade and
shut the engine. When traffic started to move I signaled
to pull back in and she kept pulling tight to the car in
front of her so I couldn't get in. At one point there was
an opening so I also hand signaled to pull in. I turned
around to see what was up and she flips me the bird.
What is up with that???? Keep in mind this was heavy traffic
and nobody was getting anywhere in a hurry...have there
been a lot of recalls on the Z4?????

That's when some skill with projectile saliva comes in handy. I have developed this as a tool for my Boston bicycle commute, along with various obscene gestures and a morbid glare. I do find that BMWs are disproportionately at the receiving end of such tactics. Grand Cherokees, too.
When I'm driving, I usually find that other MINIs are excited to return signals, especially on the highway.

.. that, or a well-placed cleat in the fender. Or the windshield... or..
.. okay, it's a bit drastic, but given the clueless nature of the drivers around and in Boston and the fatal accidents of late, you have to do SOMETHING when they're about to run you over.
Of course I almost lost it when I witnessed a bus driver trying to force a bicyclist off the road. Drivers don't like it when you say something... you get thrown off the bus too... :/

I've been calling it a "Slayer" for as long as I can remember, cause that's what they do at the Slayer concerts! Rock on!

Coming home on the Mass Pike Sunday night, a pure silver MINI with RI plates zoomed by just as I was merging onto the highway, and I had to do 80+ for a few miles to catch up, but we were both excited to exchange greetings.
A little while later there were suddenly no cars in front of me for half a mile, and I hit 110 for the first time. It's amazing how solid and sure-footed this car is! 110 wasn't nearly as scary as 90 in my old Corolla.

>>btw: this should **** some of you off: (i don't know this thread turned to bicycle's)
>>but here it goes, bicycle's belong on bike paths, NOT on motor vechicle roads

i noticed that anyone that doesn't agree with you gets called a nasty name
people (just like you) are entitled to their opinions, as well as you are

So I don't belong on the road just because I can't do 55mph on my bike? There is no way I'm riding on an express way, but on the roads around my house, whether it's in the middle of nothing or not, I'm riding. Now if YOU have issues with people riding, that is your problem. God forbid you should swing out a little to pass the cyclist. Is it that much of an issue for you? There aren't enough bike paths around to hand all the riders as well as joggers, walkers, roller bladers and kids. For some cyclists, we need to get out on the road and keep a certain speed for fitness/training reasons, and the bike path doesn't allow that.

>>Why make such an obviously inflammatory comment, and then act all indignant when somone bites? Geez, way to kill a good thread. I'll delete all this crap if you will.
i have plenty of friends that ride bicycle's
and we have had many heated (but friendly) debates on this,
(including DMV, insurance issuses, etc.)
everyone is entitled to their opinions
i really don't think that your riding your bicycle on the interstate, pleaseeeeee
but even on the twistie back roads you have cars zipping around at high speeds
running bicycle's off the road and causing harm to other people, is BAD
and would never condone that type of behavior
but in agreement with you
"Geez, way to kill a good thread. I'll delete all this crap if you will."
i prefer the happy part of this thread instead of this "tit for tac" nonsense
besides: you do have good taste in cars
and i'll still flash your MINI when i pass you on the road

I used to ride a motorcycle. When I lived in CA you could lane split and that used to irk people stuck in their cars beyond belief. You could see their beady eyes glare at you in their sideview mirros as you approached. Waiting.
Then they would slowly start coming over and crowding you.
I found this a great opportunity to kick off a side mirror or 5.
By the time it registered what had happened you were too far ahead to be IDed. Very satisfying.
