R50/53 Chili Red or Pepper White, which color is more visible?
Chili Red or Pepper White, which color is more visible?
I really like both colors. Was wondering if you have an opinion on which one is more visible to other drivers. I suppose it depends on the time of day. Since getting interested in MINI's, I have really begun to notice just how many there are. Perhaps the liquid yellow jumps out the most, but have been trying to squint, close one eye, and take quick glances at the PW and CR MINI's to see which stands out more. I suppose I just want to be seen so as to not be missed by our monster vehicle drivers. MINI has great colors, none that I would object to having. I'm torn between CR-W and PW-B, the "free" colors.
CR/W
Why? Simply because the white isn't really white buy more of a dirty white (pepper). Its not a pure white like you would see in most other cars.
If it were a pure white, then I would say WHITE.
Why? Because the CR really isn't a Ferrari Red or a Porsche Red in your face ... its really a darker red
Confusing huh?

I'd go with CR/W. The silver, grays, blacks and whites and tans, etc., all kind of blend together, but CR stands out. The silvers and grays can be especially hard to see against the similar color of many highways.
Go CR/W

Went from on '03 PS/B MC to an '06 CR/W MCS. Over the years of having my first and planning for the second, my original thought was a blue of some kind, but every time I looked at a pic w/ mulitiple MINI's, my eye was always drawn to the CR/W's. It finally became clear that it was the right choice, and I also love the white wheels to finish it off.
For visibility...CR, no doubt!!! PW is classy in an understated way, CR is classy in a visually intense way. LY, I think, would run a close second from my own personal experience w/ MINI encounters.

.....high visibility colors like CR are also easier targets for the cops, but I'm sure (like everyone else on NAM) you're a totally law abiding citizen who never breaks the speed limit

I actually was very disappointed they didn't make a true white MINI as that is the color I would have bought because the CR just is too dark for me ... but its all a personal choice and its not like they let you paint to sample (as some other cars do).
I think CR is way more visible if that's what you're going for. Personally I like PW for the fact that it isn't a white white. If it were I wouldn't want it (boring). Pepper white is much more spicy!

both are great colors. CR most definitely stands out more and is great if that is what you want. but one of the first questions i get asked (along with how spacious is that?, how is the gas mileage?, etc) is what color is that?! i love it and i even love telling them the name of the white..
I think Pink stands out the most to us MINI owners.
Other drivers will see you with a lot more consistency if you turn on the head lights. I drive a Black MINI and don't feel I get missed all too often, I had far more runover attempts made at me in other car, even when I was in the larger of the vehicles. Besides the whiptastic handling helps you get out of the way more quicker, a feature that has saved my life several times, and also keeps the ins. lower than would otherwise be.

White or Yellow would be most visible.
The color red is perceived as black at night.

For instance, any study that reports red cars are more prone to crashes needs to rule out higher number of red cars on the road and disproportionate numbers of bad drivers (e.g. young males) owning red cars.

Depends what you define as visibility here. I agree that in the sea of daily traffic, CR stands out and turns heads more than any color, providing you have some good daylight and an ability to make out the color. When I see other red cars coming at me, they always burst out from the REALLY boring palatte of colors that most Americans choose to paint their cars with (just scan a parking lot next time you are out and tell me how many bright primary colors you see staring back - hardly any....)
At night, I think that the tides are turned and the lighter colors - probably any shade of white and perhaps that pukey-yellow color they used to paint fire engines with - stand out far better in the glare of headlights and streetlights. I have read articles on how bad a choice red is for visibility at night - orange is slightly better but yellow is better yet.
For my money, I would prefer to get attention in the daytime when I can turn heads and feel safer doing it, so it is CR for me....!!!

Bill, I turn the headlights on at night so I'm not as concerned about being seen. I have found even white cars driving around at night with no headlights on can be much tougher to spot then a balck car with headlights on.
Which is more visible? That depends on the "context" in which they exist. For example most of us find white text on a black background very hard to read (like over at MINI2) yet black on white is easy. It seems to me that given how many light-colored and black cars and trucks are on the road these days that the CR would stick out more.
You've narrowed it down to my two fav. colors. I guess you have you ask yourself what color person you are. You car's color is going to be your next layer of skin - it will be an outward expression of you. Which color has the most you-ness?
But to answer the question - CR def. stands out more than PW.

. More of a warm white, which I think was a good choice on the part of MINI. A true white (while pretty) would look very stark with a black roof/bonnet stripes, and would make the white look like a primer coat. Now if I was going to do an all white MINI, a BMW alpine white would be cool. But with black accents, the pepper works! I really hate the pearl whites or the whites used by most American car makers, so was glad to see a new take on white. As to standing out more, than go for the CR, that's what it's for
