R50/53 Chili Red or Pepper White, which color is more visible?
My 2 cents...
I debated between these two colors as well, except both with a black roof and stripes instead of white.
I think technically speaking, yellow is a more visible color, hence I assume why a number of fire departments have switched to yellow trucks.
When it came down to it for me, I think the personality of the car is very different when it is PW vs. CR. To me, PW looks very classy, while CR looks very sporty. And, to me, the MINI is all about being sporty and fun...so in the end, I went with CR/B.
In the end, it's still a MINI so no matter what the color of the body and/or roof, you already made the best choice by picking the MINI!

Here's the results of another study on the visibility of various vehicle colors.
How conspicuous is the colour of your car?
According to Daimler Benz, the ratings for
colour ranges from white - at 86% percent -
down to black, dark red and dark blue at 4%.

So white wins again as most visible.
Nearly twice as visible as the first Red on the chart.
And even Off White is 21% more visible than the first Red on the chart.

No matter what color you buy, you have to drive defensively. There are TONS or theories out there about what car color is better than others as far as visibility to other drivers. Since I took delivery on my CR/W MCS in March, I have had many close calls, some even about to turn right in front of me! HOW can they miss a RED car with white stripes??? There are tons of idiot drivers out there. I ALWAYS drive with my headlights on. Be careful!
But to answer your question, well I had the same dilemma, CR or PW. My wife really liked the PW better, so just in case she would REALLY like my MINI and want her own, I ordered the CR/W. And within a couple months she had to have her own. So we have BOTH! But I'm a little impartial to the CR/W. It just is a color that fits a fun car. Plus, the CR should be quite noticeable when the snow flies again.

I think that the "night time concern" is in situations where your headlights, tail lights or marker lights don't really help with someone else's visibility, such as when a person is pulling out of a driveway at a right angle to you, or when a person is backing out of a space in a parking lot as you drive by behind them... That sort of thing. The articles I have seen on this show how your headlights illuminate the side of a car from a distance in pitch black darkness - and the lighter colors almost glow while the darker ones make it hard for you to even tell what the outline of the car is.
I still think that in daylight, that the CR is the most "noticeable" as well as "visible" color out there - and if you are noticeable then people are watching out for you....

Ask any cop, Chili Red. Seems like a reason not to own one if you ask me. Not that Hyper Blue is very stealth.
Pepper White to me reminds me of old English White the was used on Austin Healey's. A very classic color.

resmini asked about Silver
Here's a different study in which Silver is ranked safest.
Here's a different study in which Silver is ranked safest.
A recent study conducted by researchers at the University of Auckland, New Zealand indicates that there may be a link between car color and serious injuries as a result of car accidents. Their findings were published in the The British Medical Journal in December 2003.
The study involved accidents in New Zealand between 1998 and 1999. According to their findings, drivers of brown cars had the highest risk of sustaining serious injuries caused by auto accidents. Black and green cars also had elevated risks.
Which are the safest cars? Drivers of silver-colored cars, according to the report, have a 50% less chance of being involved in an injury-causing accident than do drivers of white cars! While the results are surprising, more studies need to be performed before we all rush out and repaint or replace our vehicles.
The scientists did not explain why there was such a disparity in accident rates. Perhaps lighter colored cars are more visible, or perhaps the people who choose such cars are a self-selecting group of safe drivers.
How popular are the various car colors? According to DuPont Automotive's 2003 Color Popularity Report, the top three colors (silver, white and black) account for more than 50% of new cars manufactured for North America. Here is a chart highlighting the top ten most popular car colors:

Well today while driving I saw several MINI's, no Pepper Whites but a Chili Red with a white top and one with a black top. Because it sits pretty low, the white top really stands out and would therefore could be one of the more desireable ways to go if being seen by other drivers is important. When I read the posts here that mention how being a MINI owner makes you a more defensive driver out of necessity, (because of all the "idiots" out there) its one more thing that a MINI owner could think about when choosing a color.
pepper white is an offwhite...
I had a taffeta white integra that was off white...After 7 years, i took a DA polisher and compound to it and it looked WHITE again... oxidation does that to white... Pepper white looks like an oxidized white if you ask me... i would still consider getting it... best at hiding fine micro scratches. Great if you park outside.
