^^ thank you chow...I have posted before in other threads saying there is no governor in these cars but some people just don't get it =/ and I have never seen anywhere where MINI said that the cars were governed to anything...

My MA said the cars are drag limited, not governed.

They are usually speed limited by the tire speed rating... I thikn H rated tires are good for 138... have to look it up...

Okay, from personal experience, I know it is governed. Or at least MINE is (early 2003 build). I ran it up to 136 and it had still been pulling pretty hard until I hit that number, then it just stopped. Now that I have the UNIchip I want to try it again. I think that terminal velocity for a Mini is 145-150. They're geared to do around 160 it seems.

The ECU had nothing to do with me not being able to go faster. when the ECU decides you dont go any faster, it cuts the sparks or the injectors which in effect acts as if you just slammed on the brakes if your not expecting it.

I have had this happen to me an an A4 and I got freaking scared for that first second, I thaught something had gone wrong.

So, we can conclude that the 05 MCS has a top speed of ~ 140MPH which is drag limited, and that if I were to add a 15% pulley + Milltek, I could probably get about 16WHP more which would get me around 145MPH

Assuming the HP needed for an MC would be about the same, I'm taking my MINI to Booneville as soon as I get another 23,260 HP out of it.

That British pilot has had the land speed record long enough.

So is it safe to say that we think the top speed listed here is just for legal purposes?

I was told that our speedo's are off by 3 mph's( as tested by radar guns and GPS's) so does that mean you only went 137? sounds about right.

At 136 indicated, you just hit the proverbial brick wall. The amount of HP required to go faster than the air friction doesn't exist. Again, 02 - 04 cars theoretically have a top speed of 164 with that gearing and in fact, the Silver State MINI guy, I believe, has that number posted on their website.

I believe the MINI quoted number for JCW is 142 mph. I do not believe their is ANY governer of any kind that they change in the ECU to allow that, its simply 40 more BHP to get another 5 mph which should tell you something about that curve.

BK...

That is not a good assumption. The JCW kit adds 40 bhp, thats more than 16 whp and gets only 5 more MPH
