We had our first block party in my area.I cant tell you how many
times I heard "whos the guy with the mini?",usually a woman.
this lead to several trips to my garage for viewing.needless to
say my male neighbors are envious.I bought my car because I
like it not to get attention.but it sure is fun to see peoples reactions.

I have had similar experiances, and I had no clue it would happen until after the first few days. Then it became even more apperent on a cross country when a small town LEO looked at me like I was driving a spaceship. Even this afternoon going through Lake Forest (right behind the MINI dealer great set of roads for a test drive) I had a couple in a Ferrari pass me, jaw drop and head turn, put a smile on my face.
my favorite is, going to Fast Food pickups and they just gaze at what your driving and ask who makes it. Of course, if you say MINI, it will just make things more confusing so then you have to say BMW and they go "ohh"
One of the jacka** managers at work made the snide comment the other day when I was sitting out in my MCS during lunch, "Nice BMW!"
My response:
"BMW is the parent company but this car is made by MINI! ...and I wouldn't DRIVE a BMW!"
I wouldn't and won't. :-)

What always suprises me is the variety of people that comment on the car, from the young kids at the fast food drive thru, to the old people at the mall, but particularly the construction workers in there beat up old trucks.

It really freaked me out when I first got my Mini. Everywhere I went I felt paranoid, like people were staring at me. Then I realized they were staring at me
. I have gotten used to it as has my dog Petey but it still freaks out friends when they ride with me

I've said this many times here on NAM, but I'll say it again - I still can't believe, that after having been out for almost 5 years now, that these cars still get the amount of attention that they do. It's awesome!!! I can't wait til I finally get mine!!

I was beginning to think it was just this area, but if qwertmoneky is experiencing it and I'm not, it makes me wonder why?
Not that I particulary WANT people I don't know asking me all kinds of questions and staring (I'd never want to be a celeb), but just once it might be nice!

I must confess the celebrity factor has worn off to a large extent around here, which is fine w/ me I suppose. The novelty of MINI motoring in early '03 was really fun. Now that that's subsided I ask myself, "are you bored...ready to move on?" Not in the least!!!! In the end, I'm motoring in a MINI, a car I personally love, in both the classic and updated form, and that continues to amaze....that just has to be enough for me. Oh yes...it most certainly is!

Why don't you drive?
Seems like every time I go to lunch with a work colleague I end up driving. I often get the comment. "I'm in no hurry to get back so if you take the long way it's okay with me."
So far I already have two potential converts and I've only had the car two months.

I've received a lot of good reactions to the car. Recently I stopped at a local pizza parlor and there was an old Italian guy who owned the shop out front smoking a cigarette. He followed me into the store and just went off in broken english about how beautiful the car was. On the other hand I had a bad reaction the same week. I was stopped at a traffic light and this dude in a Pontiac Trans Am rolled down his window and yelled "you f***ing f**!". which kind of made me laugh since he was driving the ultimate POS.
With so many South Americans around here, I often talk to older guys who raced classic Minis around mountain roads in their native lands. Very cool stories, nice to hear. One dude was classic: cigarette, Euro-Brazilian type of coolness. He was talking about so many mods they did, about sending away to Italy for tuner parts, etc.
I bought my Mini in Dallas & drove it home to Denver, and every single time I stopped (gas, munchies, hotel), someone would comment on it (all positive comments, too). Including one old-time Texas cowboy in his 50 year old pick-up truck (complete with 50 year old mutt in the passenger seat
) asking me "What kinda car is that y'all gotcher selves there?", and then going on to tell us how nice it was.

yesteday while waiting in line at a fast food drive-up,an older woman(70s)
walks up to me and asks if it is an electric car.I answer "no its not"
her response "are you sure? you know they are selling them now".
I just smiled and told her I would check when I got home.

hahaha I love how MINIs still attract this much attention years after they were first introduced!
I just picked mine up yesterday so I've only had her for about 24 hours but I was at the grocery store this afternoon, came out and saw some people taking pictures of themselves and my MINI! That was greatness. As long as they don't touch it I'm cool with it haha
