deadline to order 2006 MCS?

Anybody know for sure? Sunday, a sale on a 2005 MCS fell through (owner wrecked it 12 hours before we were meeting to finalize ). We are having a hard time finding another suitable '05, so the thought was we might just order an '06. Just want to know how patient we can be with making the decision...err waiting for another '05 to come along.

It's around late-August according to my MA... I'm putting my order in mid-July, so I can take delivery in September...

I don't know if you have any time to waste (deciding whether to order an '06 or not). Even if the cut-off is say, a month away, that doesn't mean that you can wait until then. If the dealer does not have any production slots that can be filled with an order, you are out of luck.

Heck, I ordered in March... and I was getting worried I would not get my production number in time. My dealer said I'd get it between June-July.

I can stop worrying since I got my production # today, but I would not wait any longer if I were you.

spoke with my local dealer today....some time in August is the deadline. Guess I'll keep searching for an '05 with LSD in the meantime.

As someone above said, if August is the deadline it doesn't mean you can walk into your dealership in (insert month of your choice) and order one of the last '06s. Each dealer has a specified number of build slots per month and once they're filled up, you're out of luck if you want to order a-la-carte. If you're happy buying off the lot you should be OK in delaying. My MA told me that he already has a long list of people trying to order one of the last '06s.

What's the rationale of ordering one of the last 06? Do they think it is going to be more valuable? I understand what MiniMargie is doing but for someone not shopping for a used one, what's the point?

It couldbe that the 2007 changes may produce a lot of bugs that MINI needs to work out... I wouldn't order a first year car... Just my 2 cents anyway...

After seeing the 07's I have no desire to ever have a MINI past 06. They leave a bad taste in my mouth especially that silly interior.

Some people think the current gen will be "the" seminal MINI and want to order one of the last ones before they're gone forever .

I explained our situation to my dealer and he assured me that we could order as late as Aug. We won't wait that long, but these forums don't move very fast re: FS in the Marketplace, so we were hoping to keep our options open. We keep an eye on Craigslist and Cars.com from OH to MA to SC.

Yes, my MA assured me that you can order through August also, but he recommended me ordering it mid-July to be safe. I think it's because I am in TX and it's not as competitive as the East and West coasts. I really cannot take delivery until late-August - Sept., so that's why I'm planning it that way. Otherwise I would order it now!

As far as ordering '06's versus the '07's, I personally do not like the new model... I think it's kinda ugly from what I've seen so far, and it's got a brand new engine and all. It took MINI till 2005 to fix everything, so the '05 an '06's are the best to buy IMO.

I don't understand why the Canadian cut off date for ordering a 2006 S was the end of April. The only S we can now order are special edition models. I ended up finding a new S that was close to what I wanted at a local dealer. The car was not exactly what I wanted, but close.

My theory is that it is a trade off dictated by the car gods. You get the Smart car, the Nissan Xtrail, and whatnot, but you have to give up the Mini four months earlier than the States.

last order

My dealer said their last amount they get they have to order in July and I am ordering this coming weekend for that. I have been waiting and waiting to have no debt before I ordered so this is perfect timing. (yay to no debt) They say delivery is scheduled for september (but may arrive early). I will be saving up down payment until then. haha.

Smart car....you can have them. That's what my wife originally wanted. Thank heaven I was able to talk her into a Cooper S!

looks like we will probably place an order in the next few days. Q for you - if we find a suitable used one in the meantime, can we cancel with no penalty? I'd assume this may vary by dealer, so a general answer would be fine.

All the dealers I've heard of offer a refundable deposit. You should double check with the dealer you're ordering with to make sure, though.

Good luck!

thanks! last one we ordered, we had no intentions of giving it up, so the Q never came up.
