MCS insurance vs 350Z insurance

I really want the Z for its power, but my parents say insurance is too much, they dont know but it does make sense. I want to know how much insurance is for both. Also if you could tell me where to go to find this out I would appreciate it.

Thanks

both cars are super sweet. Z is so fast 300 hp nice! but i love the mini cooper, i think its way cooler

I hate to say it...but if you havta ask, you probably can't afford it,I am assuming you are the average young male driver and I remember my hopes of buying a new GXSR(motorcycle) years ago go up in smoke cause the insurance was outragious! The Z is a great car mind you but the new mini is a masterpiece with a serious history...very classy car...this aint no AMC Pacer!

LB is right - your best bet is to contact your insurance agent to get an exact quote. There are so many variables that it is nearly impossible to get a good gauge by hearing someone else's rates.

Lets imagine for a minute I was 23 years old(I'm 37)I would'nt even look at the Mini...I'd be thinking....Z=Fast!!!...Get the Z!....Get the Z!

But being as I'm not 23...and I've had some fast cars, I prefer the nostalgia and the history of the Mini...damn....I must be getting old...

Hey, I am 23, and my MCS is being built as we chat!

Frankly, I can't afford the extra 10+ grand for the 350Z (no mommie/daddie funding, sheesh), plus I still need some sort of back seat (side note of Z: interior plastics, yuk!) No matter how ya slice it, the Z doesn't have the heritage or cult-following of the MINI, and that is cool stuff!

Oh yea, the question: Contact your insurance company and ask them! (easy)

Off topic: how can the Z have no history my friends, it's a Z! Read up on Japanese cars and see their history!

lbboarderh2o
it would be nice of u to ask your father the rates on both cars, I really want the Z bad. Just for me to see the difference.

Ok..the Z has a history and that should'nt be overlooked but it certainly doesn'nt match the history of the Cooper...the mazda Rx-7 has a history too, about same as Z in my opinion...but it's not a Cooper either, the Cooper my friend..is right up their with the 911 or VW Bug...of course this is my opinion

Insurance costs vary widely based on age, driving record, and location. However, Edmunds.com will estimate insurance costs for a particular vehicle, and the estimate for both the MCS and 350Z are within $20 per year of each other (MCS=$929/yr, 350Z $946/yr). A C5 Corvette's estimate is $1397/yr. I gotta say, that all of these numbers sound somewhat low to me. Also, if I was looking at a 350Z, I would definitely look at the Infinit G35 - it is essentially the exact same car, but the back end is not nearly so ugly. IMHO, of course.

tboner4me is correct about the variables. Bk_MCS, you need to go sit down with an insurance agent in your area as it sounds like there's lots about auto insurance that you don't yet know (how could you? it sounds like it's your first time! ) Asking other people about insurance costs can only provide VERY approximate info unless they have happen to live in the same zip code as you, are the same age/gender, and have the same driving history. Pretty unlikely. Just talk to an agent...it's free -- and accurate -- info.

Some cars start out with lower rates, but after they've been out for a while, it costs more to insure them. For example, a year into owning my Lexus IS300, it got "flagged" by the insurance company, and because about 200 a year more to insure (27yo, perfect driving record). You figure too many kids were ricing them out and wrapping them around lightpoles!!

Anyhow, when I was shopping around for cars, I was looking at the 350z, the MCS, and a used M3. All of which would have been cheaper to insure than the IS 300. In my opinion, all those 3 cars have completely different driver demographics than the IS 300. Thus you would be looking at a wide variance in the cost to insure each of them.

Call your agent, I would call mine every time I was considering a different car and wanted to get an idea of how much insurance would be.

I know there are a bunch of variables to insurance. I was just looking for a basic comparison between the two so I can show my parents that its not as much as they think. I am gonna get my parents to call for prices today!

For what it's worth, in NJ the 350Z is only slightly more expensive to insure than the MCS. Likewise, I was looking at both cars. Insurance in NJ is way high, so no matter what car you get here, it's pricey. I agree with the person who mentioned the G35 as an alternative to the 350Z - nice sports car with more practicality. Not much headroom for taller drivers though. Anyway, after all was said and done I ordered my Cooper S a couple of weeks ago - can't wait!

Being a Z expat myself, I feel I must step in and defend it's treasured heritage. Although the Z was never popular in other countries, it was a revolution in the US. Z popularity in the US has a reach far greater than that of the Beetle (with it's 20 year absense), the 911 (with it's rarity), and certainly more so than the virtually non-existant Mini.

And yes, the 350Z is Fugly with a capitol F. It's a shame people don't realize that the Z is available in a good looking version. All you have to do is ask the salesman to show you a Z that isn't so Fugly and he'll gladly take you right over to the G35 model.

If you or your parents can afford the 7 to 10 grand the 350 costs over the MCS then who cares about insurance? FYI: My insurance actually went DOWN $6 per year from a 2002 Jetta TDI (diesel) to the MCS so the MCS is a fairly cheap car to insure considering it's abilities.

I know that this is a revive but hey gotta add the 2 cents. I know for a fact that from 30-100 the MCS keeps the Z at bay after that well....
I am a prior owner of a Zcar 73' 240Z... loved it to death. 3.1 stroker with mikuini sidedrafts isky cammed MSA 6-1 header. No power steering no a/c... just a beast. The Zcars history goes to the mid to late 60's starting with the datusn roadsters.

My sis had a Z. After six months she couldn't wait to get rid of it because of front end issues. She is a fanatic about cars and did some research....Z's have problems with their front ends.

MINI's have problems with front ends too. Mushrooming and failed strut mounts seem to come to mind.
