New Mini Sport Stripe option.

An article on Motoringfile.com today heralds a new option for sport stripes that are essentially viper stripes.....in several colors for the bonnet, roof & boot. I think this is a great addition. I had to go after-market to get white shelby style vipers on the bonnet, boot & rear bumper of my second Mini.....a ds/ds, '06 MCS. No doubt this does contribute to a sportier/racier look. Nice goin' MiniUSA!

Even for '06 orders with the stripes included in the sports package?

If so.. maybe it's not too late to change my black bonnet stripes for the viper stripe kit (since my car is 4 weeks away from the dealer)?

Oh the noobers.....there are INSANELY FEW IF ANY stripes factory installed. I have not yet asked but I wonder if the checkmates ones are factory installed. My guess is they are.

MANY of the "FACTORY OPTIONS" like even the NAV are dealer installed.

Don't listen to the dealers, they have been known to say that the clear bras come from the factory and well that is a bold faced lie.

For the record I'd get mine done at a vinyl and tint expert ANY DAY over at a dealer. BESIDES the stripes that MINI sells are crap anyway. I would look to Cooper Flags. Dealers are in the business of SELLING CARS, to have things installed like decals go to a person who's business is installing tint and vinyl. In Tampa i have the best in the city, but I do not know anywhere outside of that sad to say. Look in the installers for Cooper Flags, that would be a decent place to start.

I don't think so..........stripes ordered as part of the sport package would be installed at the factory?

If they are installed by the dealer then they are doing something for free......which is very unusual.

ROFL, well let them tell you what they want.......

They are dealer installed. Unless ALOT has changed since I got my '05 or had drinks at my MINI tech at his house.

Anyways the stripes you get from MINI are garbage in comparison to a good 3M material. I have never had wax bind to a 3M stripe and I have had 4 MINIs. On my b@#$h ex-wife's however it bound so bad that I had to go at them with glass cleaner to make them not look foggy again.

My shelby vipers were purchased from Cooper Flags.....great quality. The dealer had someone come in to install them.....can be somewhat tricky around the supercharger scoop and rear bumper.

That's why I asked. For '06, bonnet stripes became a factory installed option rather than a dealer installed option. To me, that indicates that they are applied when the car is built, not when it arrives at the dealer. Or maybe they're put on at the VDC. At any rate, the difference to me between factory installed and dealer installed is the price listed. Does that price include installation ("factory installed", wherever the installation may occur), or is installation extra ("dealer installed", such as the Aero kit, driving lamps, etc.)?

And there's a reason why I wouldn't bother to order aftermarket stripes - the hassle. I don't want to have to find someone to put them on for me. If I can order the car with them already applied, I'll do it. Sure, there may be a quality difference, but I don't think the ones from MINI would be total crap.

Very nice look...but it appears the stripes are cut out around the MINI logo on the bonnet. This is unfortunate. Many have tackled the job of removing the front logo to install stripes and the effect is great and the current standard. If I read the pic right this install would be easier, but sub-par. To each their own though!
