Article on gas prices at CNN.com

This is not news for anyone except for maybe those living under a rock. An article on Money/CNN details the upcoming summer gas price hikes and the so-called reasons for it. There is a bright spot, however, if you look closely at the graphic on the page:

Looking at it a different light, the graphic shows one possible solution to the problem.

haha nice. I just got 39.5 MPG over my last tank ('05 Cooper 5sp) (488.7miles/12.363gallons). I like getting good fuel economy while driving a fun to drive machine!

As a Limey living in the States, the current gas prices would have to more-than-double before I start feeling taken advantage of......to me it's still relatively cheap.

Sure keeps things in perspective at how low our gas is when you compare other countries.

And this was exactly one year ago, so I'm sure things have gone up quite a bit even since then!

Yeah, but the high cost of fuel in europe is due to taxes isn't it?

As I understand it, close to 50 cents/gallon in the U.S. goes to fed and state taxes. Lo by comparison to overseas, but not insignificant

In NY State it may be even more?

Gas prices here seem to be disproportionately high (for the East)

So then they're projecting prices to drop before the summer?

One could take the other perspective..

that gas prices everywhere are lower than they should be because the price only really includes the cost of production and delivery, and doesn't include the costs of emissions and other consiquences of use. This is the "life cycle pricing" model, that would really help if it were adopted more widely. Then the purchasing choices made would include the consiquences of use as well, that is eventually paid for by someone....

Just a thought....

Matt

It is more expensive here in NY... Luckily I live six miles from NJ where they pump it for you and it's generally about 30 cents cheaper per gallon.
