Wifey almost squished my MINI!

First my digital camera story, and now this...

So last night I had the MINITOR backed up to the open garage so that the rear tires were not quite inside the garage (and not in front of the safety sensor), but my hatch was open and a tad bit inside the garage. I was getting out a tool and I heard the garage door motor. My wife was just getting home and coming around the corner and was attempting to open the already open garage door, thus shutting it. I look over and before I could reach the button the door was smashing down on the open hatch and closing it. It looked like an evil monster clown mouth with fangs trying to eat my MINI! (You know the type, like at a fun house or the last hole at put put golf, or the carzilla at the monster truck show)

I hit the button and it stopped, and hit it again and the door reopened. Before I even looked for damage I peered around the corner and gave my wife, now aware of what she had done, the look of death. I could tell that she was afraid to get out of her car, you just dont squish your husband's MINI.

I check out the car and little or no damage was actually done. Luckily the bottom of the garage door had that rubber seal which just pushed the hatch down. There is a scratch on the glass, but I recall there being some sort of scratch there before, so I dont know if it was already there but I am pretending it was.

My wife must have saw the look of relief in my eyes because she got out of her car and apologized. Though no damage was really done, the horror of the whole situation did have me a bit shaken up and grumpy for a while.

Maybe that explains the nightmares..."no clownzilla, not my MINI!!!"

Hope you learned your lesson! Don't park your MINI within an open garage door.

I suggest that the next time the MINI is in jeopardy, reach up and pull the plug on the opener if you have the type of motor that plugs into a nearby outlet. Safety in foresight.

Or just put a brick or something in between the door sensors to break the beam. No closey.

Your very lucky! My brother shut the garage door on my dads blazer and smashed the glass EVERYWHERE. Glass scratched the paint of the roof, etc. He also did it to my moms Trailblazer (talk about bad luck!) but *all* that did was put a 1" scratch (that took the paint off!) on the back hatch.

To avoid something like this, I always "lock" the garage door open on the touch pad inside the garage.

Hey, it could have been worse. I had Rodan a foot or so back from his correct spot as I had to jockey the H-D. Got distracted by something, so later, you guessed it, dropped the garage door on the rear bumper. Couldn't even blame it on the wife! Just got around to ordering the touch-up paint today. After it happened, I started noticing how many cars had a similar scratch on their bumpers. Small consolation.

A Slight Variation on the Garage Door Theme

I might have outdone y'all, securing my own personal Darwin Award nomination ... I attempted to exit my (open) garage having left the hatch OPEN ... The Nasty Scratches are ALMOST invisible now, after much Sonus n' Elbow Grease!

Then there was this one time, I drove about 3 miles on a pretty busy road (traffic, lights, local law enforcement, etc) never even realizing the hatch wasn't closed, but that is another story ... I still don't know how that is even possible! While driving, I use my rearview and side mirrors like crazy, but it somehow didn't register. Before you ask, I was not indulging in any "recreational chemistry" at the time .

I'd say

you owe your wife the apology. She didn't do anything wrong! You're the one that set up this thankfully inconsiquential event.

Buck up, and take the credit you're due!

Thanks for the support you 2, no xmas presents this year.

There wasnt really any damage done, so I let her live. Just kidding. Kidding about the murder part, not about letting her live. Of course I let her live.

Anyways, I wasnt mad at her, just freaked out by it all. And the one who pushes the button is always to blame. Right?

ouch...

...that brings back memories of when my mother was rushing to some sort of gallah and forgot to open the garage door, she then reversed as usual... My dad wasnt too happy when we were stuck with a "permanently" open door in February...
