"CORGI on it!!!"

I have one of those sittiing at my feet right now

Actually, my MC lags a little in first gear also.I think it's the nature of the beast.
Give it a little more RPMs and it works just fine.!!!

I drove my S like an idiot from day one with no breakin and was also upset with the lag.Buster now has 7500 miles and started running like a bandit at about 1500 miles with very little lag now.My mechanic broke his in the same way .

Are you serious about the CORGI under your Mini? Was it hand written by some factory clown or what?
I see in your info you have an intrest in HO slot cars. Are there any comercial tracks around where you live? I owned several arcades in the early 80's and had a super -6 lane, coin operated comercial track in one arcade and held races weekly. Those were the days my friend!

Off the line, the stock beast is a tough one to tame. My tip is to let the clutch slip a bit more, and be generous with the gas. Still, when I was at the 1/4 mile track, my 60' times were still not very impressive, my friend in his CRX was putting down better numbers in that arena.
For the fastest possible starts, you basically have to slip the clutch up until about 4000 rpm, around where the car really starts to pull like no tomorrow.

Don't know about an S
My Cooper is a 02 july build.
after the 10,000 mile service Harley has run better than ever. No more 1st gear hesitation. I suspect they are changing the tuning after 10,000 miles. Or mine got some kind of ECU upgrade.

There is also an upgrade CD for the computer that they put in at service, it changes the settings for better hop off the line.
