Well last night my flat tire light came on, so i filled all my tires up to 50, and reset it. again it came on today so I checked my tire pressures and all are at 49 or 48 except one is at 30. Sounds like a flat to me? what do you think?

yes I am, but there really is no way to tell with these run flats. I would almost rather have a regular tire so at least when i have a flat i know it for sure.

Ants,

Let us know what develops, and if it was fixed, what method they used.

Thanks and Good Luck!

Good lord man, a Motoring Advisor should at least know appropriate tire pressures! At 50 psi, you're seriously over-inflating your tires. Get your flat fixed, and then adjust all the pressures down to around 35 psi before you blow something up...

if there's no hole in the tread suggest that they take the tire off and put it back on with a proper sealant.

O.K. , I really love lurking on here so this is like my second post, maybe.

I just had to have one of my 17" run flats replaced today because they said that they can not be fixed. It ended up being three hundred and thirty five dollars for a replacement. Needless to say my jaw dropped when he said they can not fix them, but rather all they can do is replace them.

So please let me know what happens with your tire situation, because right now I'm looking at a couple of cans of fix-a-flat and all new tires.

Ants:
The advantages of the MC! MCS owners can only stop for a donut (ie: Krispy Kreme)

casper - try tirerack.com for future tire replacements. I've had some tire sagas of my own and they seem to do better on price. Mine was unable to be repaired also.

I agree that without a pressure gauge, it's harder to spot a flat on a "run-flat" than a regular tire with the naked eye...bigger wheels, stiff side-walls, the rims never really touch the ground. I had a massive hole in my tire (no air) and it looked just about as inflated as the other tires.

All this talk about run flats.

What's an MCS owner to do? Non run flats are better, and I hardly ever get a flat anymore, but if you do get one with regular tires and no spare, usually at the worst place imaginable, you are kind of screwed.

Outside of mounting a spare a la SUV, is there a solution? Probably not, or MINI would have done it.

Ok here is the deal, cost me $250 to replace because, run flats CANNOT be patched. I had my employee discount though so you did indeed pay the proper price casper. Run flats are $270 a tire plus labor. Turns out I had run over a nail. Also I am well aware that the proper psi is 35, but I always have and always will over inflate my tires. I like the solid feeling I get from the car when the tires dont have much give to them, and this had nothing to with my problem. Also after one day of motoring the tires are down to 48 anyway. Hope this helps everyone. I want to get my tires switched cause the run flats suck! But then I will have to pay for all new tires as well as rims, as my current rims are run flat specific. ugh.

Like someone said above, runflats *CAN* be patched, depending on where the puncture is.

I had a nail in mine, Gary at MINI of Peabody said they cannot patch them at the dealership, some legality thing. He said "I can get you a new tire, but some tire places are patching them for under 50 bucks."

I called a few, some didn't do it, some did. Ended up getting it patched for $20, hasn't lost any PSI yet.

Thanks for the reply antsmini.

I think were in the same boat right now, I want to get rid of my run flats also.

I am definently glad to know that I was told the correct thing about them having to be replaced. (I've been wondering all day really) In other words if it could have been fixed I would be steaming, oh well.

Is that true that I will have to replace the rims if I want non run flat tires? I currently have the 17" R85's.
Thanks for any answers.

i have the white rims that come with the sport package, and those are indeed the rims that will need to be replaced. Also the flat tire monitor should be located on your tac.
