Folks...I believe that there may be some confusion and/or misinformation afloat here.

First, it IS possible to repair ruflats assuming that the damage is confined to a specific area of the tire. See this thread on MINI2 for detailed information.

Second, there is absolutely no problem putting non-runflat tires on your OEM rims. There is no need to buy new wheels unless you so-desire (for cosmetics, lighter wheels, etc.). I believe -- although am not 100% sure -- that this goes both ways (i.e, you can put runflats on any wheel)...but I don't think that's what is being discussed here anyway. Lots of people on MCO have fitted standard tires to their original wheels with no problems. Visit the Wheel/Tire forum for further discussion (which, by the way, is where THIS THREAD belongs!).

totaly tru my freind i have the sport package with the 17 inch s-light on my s
and i am running the yokohama spec-2s and their super fine, i dont know people come up with this stuff other than you cant trust a dealer, heck my dad owns one and their is much more leagle stuff to pute up with than other places.

but yes i have one runflate with 4 patches so far and its fine and sometimes i cruse at 130 for a while on these roads and never had a problem witch is evedent because im talking with you know.....a blow out at those speeds are deadly.

well so that sums it up for me = yes runflats can be fixed just dont take it to your dealer

and second = yes you can run aftermarket tires on the 17 inch runflats wheels

Take it to your dealer when you have a chance.

Well I have no clue, all I know is service told me run flats CANNOT be repaired and that the run flats cant git on the rims. So if I take it to a third party tire place could they put the new tires on for me? And what would be a good performance tire to get?

Ants... I can't believe that someone who works at a MINI dealer (or any car dealer for that matter) can't get a better price on tires than going to a "third party tire place." At least you should be able to buy the tires from (for example) TireRack and get them installed by your service folks. The Yokohama AVS's are getting good reviews; but check out the Wheel/Tire forum here on MCO for more opinions.

BTW, back to your original post in this thread...in case you were typing accurately when you said that you took the pressure up to 50 psi...see this recent post
by Dan from TireRack where he mentions that you want to keep warm pressure under a 50 psi ceiling. If you're inflating to 50 psi COLD, then you're really screwing up your tires (and running unsafe).

Anyway, all something which I would think that just about anyone -- motoring "advisor" or service -- at your place of employment could tell you.
