I don't know if this is a reason to support that statistic, but my MA told me that when I turn in my MINI in 36 mos. (leasing), that my down payment will go towards whatever I want from the dealership (to buy my MINI, to get another MINI, or to get a BMW or Infiniti). This is my first new car, so I am not sure if this is common practice, but you know what they say: once you go small, you stay...tall! (?)
Sorry, that doesn't even make sense.

Went back to our 1st dealer when we were buying #2. They wouldn't come off their premium, so we went out of state for MSRP (Classic) and drove it home. We even gave the original dealer another try when we were buying #3. Still no deal, they're still charging a premium, so we went back to Classic, got it for MSRP and I'll be driving #3 home the end of April. I'm not sure where that puts us in the statistics

No, it only works through the dealer I leased the car from (Dreyer & Reinbold, Indianapolis). They are a BMW, MINI, and Infiniti dealer. Still a good deal. While I can't predict the future, I am guessing I will either get a new-gen. MINI once my lease is up, or a BMW 3 or 5 series (depends on how many kids I have by then).

(ie 1k down on 25k gives 24k - 16k residual = 8k over 36 months - 1k back again at tend of lease towards another car = 7k paid out?) = super simply math
Just wondering how this could work as I just ordered an '06 and am considerng a lease so I can buy an '08 or '09 MCS MKII
It'd have to be a *good* deal, otherwise the resale value wipes out any lease advantages
