Insurance rate difference between the MCS and MC?

I know rates are different for everyone, but can anyone share any comparisons for rates between the MCS and MC? I haven't been able to get a quote from my insurance guy without the VIN's so I wanted to find out if anyone on here could help out at all. (I did a search and couldn't find anything either)
Thanks!

I don't understand...

...why your agent can't quote you a rate without a VIN? Our State Farm agent gave us quotes for several cars when we were shopping. Even if they can't quote an exact dollar figure they should at least be able to give you the risk assesment for each car as a comparison.

Hey! Thats really weird! What insurance company are you using? I have that bearded dragon company, oh wait no they went with that little gecko! ok ok that was stupid, its early! My brain isnt functioning properly yet! Im ordering my MINI within the week and they had no problems giving me quotes on the car. Try calling back again and ask for someone who knows what they are doing!

My agent was able to ballpark a price without a VIN and the difference between a MC and an S was negligible, like less than $20 per year.

When I went from a 04 MC CVT to my new 05 MCSa my insurance increased $1/month and I was 20 at the time. I am now 21 and enjoying the nice price drop dew to my age.

My Farmer's insurance policy just lists my car as MINI/Cooper with the VIN number next to it. I don't think there is an inherent premium for the S. (at least not at my company)

I think State Farm lists them both as the same. They quoted me 50% off a previous Geico quote and my policy only lists "MINI COOPER" on it. Also I asked about insuring a JCW MINI and they said the amount wouldn't change.

Time to consider a new agent.

I have an MCSC insured through GEICO. It runs just under $1000 a year . I carry a $1000 deductible.

I'll guess that the only red flag for your insurance company would be whether it's a convertible vs. hardtop -- that would certainly put you in a new bracket.

Not even than... I have an '05 MCc and a '06 MCS. I think they are with in $5 of each other for a 6 months premium.

It seems here in the U.S. there is little difference. Not so (from what I hear) in the UK and other countries. I believe young drivers over there have trouble even being permitted to drive an MCS, in which case age may be more of a factor than model.

Thank you all!

Thanks for the input everyone! Sounds like there should be much of a difference. I'll have to talk to a different person at the insurance company to be sure I can get a quote, but I'm not too worried about it now though! I thought it was going to weigh into my decision on whether to get a MCS or MC. I'm sure most people have had to struggle w/ that decision too! Thanks again!!!

Like most of the others, for me the difference was minimal. Went with the MC anyway.

I've got USAA. I'm 41, male, no tickets or accidents (that were my fault). Here are the 6 month premiums for me (as the primary driver, don't know if my wife, with 1 ticket and 1 at-fault accident figures in), 10000 miles per year:

MCSC: $476
MCC: $450
MC: $361
MCS: $450

I just did an online quote with Geico for the MCSC and their 6 month rate was $581.

Hope this helps.

Paul

That is strange...looks like the difference between the MC-MCS was 25% for you. That's quite a bit in my opinion. I wonder why it was such a big difference for you and not others. Hmmmm, anyone else w/ numbers?
Thanks again...
