Mini Vs Deer

Going to work fri. night around 9:30 pm, minding my own business, just about to get on the interstate, and BAM, light tan blur bouncing off the lt front corner of my MCS. I pull over to the side of the road and get out to see the Lt front corner of my Mini crunched, I looked back about 100 ft and there it was, DEAD FREAKIN DEER in the middle of the road. The flippin thing came running through a yard and apparently thought it could magicly run through the front of my car and nothing would happen, WRONG!!!!!!! You know, Loud aftermarket exhaust, bright headlights, I have NO sympathy for an animal that will play chicken with something that is 5 times its own size, makes a loud noise the closer it comes! I just had to vent a little, if I offended the humaniacs, sorry, thats the way I feel, at least it didn't suffer!!

Sorry to hear about this but maybe you might want to consider this little extra mod? Not trying to sell you anything but I can only tell that I haven't even seen a Bambi out in the farm country where I live so that's good enough for me...

Watch Paula Zahn...there some "in car" footage of direct hits

Ouch! Sorry about the incident, but you are VERY lucky that the deer hit where it did and didn't come through the windshield!

Did you suffer any whiplash or injury at all? Have any headache? If I were you, I'd think about getting checked out by a doc if you have any discomfort, at all.

You'll get the MINI repaired and back as good as new.

What part of the country? Last time I drove from Pittsburgh to our plant in Clarksburg, WV, I must have seen 15-20 dead deer along I-79. Kinda scary lookin'.

Sorry to hear your MINI got banged up. I bounced a deer off my bonnet a couple of years ago too:

It is amazing how well the MINIs hold up to that sort of thing. I hope they get you back on the road soon.

I see deer, sometimes in threes, almost every morning in a residential area before dawn. Sometimes they even pace you on the side of the road until they hit a break in an area to get to the woods. Also, lots of dead deer in the fall (when they come out of the woods to get away from the hunters).

Since its totally dark out, I always drive with the highs and driving lights on ...

Bottom line is the deer might be dead but the aggravation to you aint worth the hassle. Be careful and drive slow in deer infested areas.

Now you DID go back and get some road kill to make some vension sausage? After all, you already tenderized the meat

Deer are the enemy and hunting season should be 365 days a year/24 hours a day. I sometimes see as many as 10 dead deer on my 28 mile drive to work in central Virginia. 10 less than I have to hit.

Fall is the worst. They're in mating season and you know how we all get when we've go that on our minds.

I hit one with my Tahoe a couple of years ago and caused big time damage to it. The deer did not fare so well either. I'd been shopping for a brush guard but had not yet got it. After I installed it I hit another one. This time no damage to the vehicle.

Last fall I hit a dead one in the road with my MCS. It was over the crest of a hill and rather small - I just tagged it with an exhaust heat shield.

Luckily I have not hit one with my bike, but I tend not to ride that late in the day when strikes seem to occur the most.

I had no injuries, I live in Butler, PA, north of Pittsburgh, my drive to work is 46 miles 1 way, I live in a rural area, I am always looking for them around the farms and woods, I didn't expect it where it happened. Bambies beter spread the word, stay the ____ away from large moving objects, especially MINIS!!!!!

Wow, sorry about your Mini! I'm glad you weren't hurt either. And judging by some of the footage and stories I saw on the Hornet (http://www.xp3hornet.com/) website... I'd say you were lucky the damage wasn't greater than it is. Hope you get back on the road soon.

I will drop Mini off at Mini of Pittsburgh tomarrow, my dad had major suspension damage repaired their and was pleased with the work. I am in the process of building my own Alta style light bar, I want a set of Hella 500's in Fog and Driving, not sure if they would have helped with the Bambie issue. Maybe I can blind them to death before they get in the road next time!!!!

Last time I was down at MOP, I he was telling me all of the mods he has done, and if I remember correctly he is also an instructor at Beaver Run, a local driving school and race track, I haven't yet auto crossed, but the time will come, the track is only about 45 bmin away. Oh, by the way, there is a pic of BAMBIE in my gallery if you would like to see the Cute, Fuzzy, Naturally free creature, NOTTTT!!!!!!!

Glad you are OK. Your car held up well. Be thankful Bambi didn't come through the windscreen. Critters just don't get it when it comes to traffic.

Stupid fooking forest kamikazes.... hate 'em more than anything in the world. #1 reason I'm buying a Mini right now is cuz of them..... and I'm installing a cow catcher.

Deer kill more people than any other animal

Worst time of year for deer

Wost time of day for deer

That's a bummer...I sure hope it was just a fluke of chance that you hit the "boy chasing girl" situation. I mean people drive out in front of fire trucks with full sirens on too...doesn't mean horns aren't any good

I hit a wild coyote last summer going around 80 (isn't it great living in TN). Anyway, the damage my car received looked very similar to yours, DpCooperS. I had to get a new bonnet, new xenon headlight ($$$), new front bumper, new winshield, and a new side molding. After all the work was done, insurance had a $2400 dollar bill to pay. :impatient

I once turned mine on when I saw some deer grazing on my land, and it got their attention. The changing frequncy had while moving/driving is supposed to freak them out... I just know that since I installed mine, I only hit a deer once, and that's when I forgot to activate it :(
