Astro Black / Purplish or Blueish?

Trying to settle a debate with a friend who's purple paranoid.

Is there purple in Astro Black?

Thoughts, opinions? Thanks!

IMO, it's blueish but only when you get close up and in the right light. What do you mean purple paranoid?

Doesn't like the color purple, and fears buying a car that may look purple, I think it would take a therapist too long to work this one out..

Thanks all!

I saw one the other day under the showroom lights and it looked like a beautiful dark blue, a blackish-blue (not purple at all).

Very striking midnight blue color. I am not a "blue" person, but that Astro Black really does look fabulous. Very distinguished IMHO.

I saw bluish.

A worthy substitute for Black-eye purple where the metal-flake reflects blue.

You would have a hard time telling which are Jet black or which are Astro black unless they are next to each other. I do and I own an AB.

You'll see a faint blue flash when it's clean in the sun, but it's almost always black.

OK, Mr. Sassypants, it's better than the default color of dark silver which everyone and their mother has...

no purple...more blue-ish if anything..and mine only looks blue in sunlight and it is actually just reflecting the blue from the sky - which makes the car appear to be blue. When it's overcast you don't see any blue..just looks black. Several samples of this in my gallary.

not-so-rednwhitecooper is wrong(sorry Rick) AB looks great, does not look like it always has dust on it or its dirty. Though it does look a lot different than JB. I honestly would probably call the color very rich navy. It does look like a metallic black, but in daylight it has a gorgeous deep blue undertone to it. I have some pics on my gallery to show the blueish tint. I have never seen an purple.

I ordered the color sight unseen (my '06 was made 2 days after someone's '05) and I am so happy with the choice, I think it is such a rich color, has a lot of depth to it. I love it!

Thanks all! Seems unanimous, I think we can call this debate over and a win for me

I think it's a great color, and had it been avaible in '04 when I ordered my Hyper Blue, it would have been a tough decision.

AB can look grey-ish or blue-ish. I have never thought purple-ish, and haven't heard anyone else call it purple-ish. You CAN tell the difference between AB and JB - they are not interchangeable.

Here are a few pics of my '06 Astro Balck MCS. The first 2 are in direct sunlight.

No problem. You see the blue more in night lights but looks black rolling down the road in sunlight. I do like the Jet Black better since that is what all my other black cars have been...MINI or whatever.... but I get a compliment about how much people like the color every time someone asks the infamous..."What kind of car is that" question, followed by many other questions! . At least once a day if I stop anywhere.

I used to think that too... After I ordered mine I discovered one parked close to my office downtown. I used to go out and try to take a closer look at the color. It always looked dirty/dusty and started to get concerned that I chose a dud in color . But It turns out mine looks nothing like the Astro Black I kept eyeing up everyday. If you keep it clean (well duh, it doesn't look dirty )...it turns out this other car I was looking at actually lives downtown and on the streets - it's probably never seen a washing yet. (poor car). But Astro is a very bright and clean color - but just as any other dark car, you will have to keep it clear in order to look clean
