The welcome kit generally takes about 5 weeks. Dunno about the AAA, must be something your dealer does.

interesting about the AAA. i know that MINI Roadside Assistance is basically a rebranded AAA service. ultimately, when you get road side assistance through MRA, it is set up by AAA but i wonder if they have had some issues and are now just calling it AAA. if you do a search, you will find a lot of complaints as well as a lot of accolades for MRA. Keep us posted. If things haven't changed, you will get a MINI branded card, not AAA.

If your dealer participates in the Welcome program you will get a Welcome Kit. Although I had to call 10 times, and got it 9 months after the car. In the welcome Kit is a permanant Roadside Assistance card, the service is provided through AAA. I also received another card in the mail under seperate cover. Both have My VIN# on them.

Give it 10-12 weeks to arrive, then start calling 1-866-ASK-MINI, I called once a month for 6 months, then twice a week for two weeks and talked to the same customer service rep. My welcome kit was then fedex'd to me.

I received mine at the five week mark and it was a pleasant surprize with all the little stuff that was in the box. Rodaside assistance card, road bingo game cards, a MINI pen, etc.

Nice touch from MINI.

I used to work for AAA. as stated above, AAA does all the road service for MINI as well as companies like GM, Enterprise... they just send their contact tow shops out to service the vehicle. One thing that you'll want to confirm with your dealer is that if its the MINI road side... that will only cover your MINI... typically one tow per break down... usually a limit of about 4 tows a year. If it's a AAA membership card, that will cover you, not the car. So you can be in any car and recieve service benefits.... Hope this helps. In 2004, AAA did about 8K service calls for MINIs.

How does the 8k service calls for MINI's compare with other makes/models ? What if I already have AAA, does the one from MINI give me additional tows on top of my usual allowance ?

Thats about 8% of all MINIs had to be towed (from 2002 - 2004).

Good question. What is the percentage on other brands?

your AAA card is separate from your MINI Roadside card and, as such, the allowances are separate. I use my MINI RA card for my new MINI and keep AAA for my classic.

BTW, out of those 8k tows, 3 of those are for my 02 Cooper.

Quick question... if MRA is really AAA, can we use our MRA card
to pick up maps from the AAA office?

No, just like you can't have your MINI serviced at a BMW dealer.
