R50/53 Things You Didn't Know About Your MINI
Flip it around so the right side is on the left and it sits cradled across the back of the rear seat headrests. The half creasant shaped cut out of the shelf rests atop the rear cup holder center hump with shelf grille facing front.

If you mean the buttons on the wheel, they are there if you have the multi function wheel, but don't do anything unless the car also has the pricey bluetooth kit option too. On most MINI's with the multi function wheel the cruise and stereos controls work, and the phone ones don't. (As most did not add the bluetooth kit too)
Previous person answered tool kit. BUT if it's a convertible the kit is under the rear floor wedged in next to the battery.
The S did not come with a spare. To fit the supercharger and intercooler etc for the S under the hood the battery is moved to the trunk, preventing a spare from being there. Hence the S came with no spare but did have run flat tires. Some of with S's eliminate the run flat tires due to $ and performance and just carry flat repair kits. If you bought this car used check to see if it has run flats on it still. If not make sure you have a kit with compressor and slime, or a can of fix a flat.
It's velcro-ed down, behind the left-side panel in the back - it's just a screwdriver, a wrench, a sunroof 'emergency' tool and a tow hook that screws into the front or back...
Actually, it's a hubcap puller (#6). (Link shows the tool kit for the Cooper, not the S.) Put the hook thru one of the holes in the hubcap and pull it off, instead of prying at it from the side. That way, you don't scratch the rim.

Of course, I have neither hubcaps nor a sunroof on my MCS, but I have that nice piece of bent metal in my tool kit.
The '06 has the tools in a fold-out foam tray wedged next to the battery. The kit was missing from the '02 when we bought it (used).

That's OK "claancy" - it's alright if you don't have one or know what I'm (we're) talking about - but feel free to correct me anyway...(insert facepalm here)

I guess I forgot that wire hub-cover puller. The sunroof tool is a 4mm, double 90 Allen wrench used to crank the sunroof open or closed in the event of a sunroof motor or power failure...

Don't know if this has been posted yet in the 72 previous pages, but you can get an extra 2 cupholders for the front seats from the slide rail handles. The space between the slide rail handles and the center console is just perfect for a medium-sized bottle/glass/whatever. It stays right in and doesn't fly out taking twisties. And it's more convenient IMO than blocking the dash. If pics are needed to explain I can upload some.
Hmmmm. Didn't see it mentioned but if I walk up to mine and leave the fob in my pocket, I can use the rubber covered button mounted in the door handle to unlock the door. If I'm in a hurry I can start the car with it still in my pocket.
In an earlier reply someone mentioned keeping the fobs charged by alternating them. Good but I was told you can programme them for separate preferences. Right?

I cant beleive it
I cant believe I am going to post here since I read the manual repeatedly and owned my MINI for nearly two years BUT I just figured out that you can also turn on the radio simply by pushing the audio button. I have seen it complained about that the only way to turn it on was to push the volume button in but alas it isnt true! I dont know if it just turns on the radio or the last audio thing you were using (I didnt test my theory) but still pretty slick. LOL
Oops
Me too!
Tool kits for '05 MINI's are under the carpet in the boot. I can provide pictures if they are wanted. Didn't see that mentioned above, someone said it was by the battery. I looked there before I realized I had already found what I was looking for!
Water in Battery Compartment of '05 Mini S
My low milage (28,300) '05 Mini S is currently at the dealer as a result of having discovered a significant amount of water in the battery box located in the boot of the car. This all started as a result of trying to replace the original battery. The battery was replaced, however the car was dead a week later.
That's when I discovered that the battery box had heavy corrosion damage, the fuse assembly located in the rear of the car was fried and the BST cables (trunk to front bay) also needed to be replaced. This does not seem to be an isolated problem according to NAM posts in March 2009. I am currently trying to locate the cause of this water leak in the boot. I forgot to mention that I have a sunroof and have not disgarded the possibility of the drain panels being plugged. Any one else have any update on this problem? Seems that '03-'05 models have been affected.

Water in Battery Compartment of '05 Mini S
I currently have my '05 Mini S with sunroof at the dealer after the discovery of water in the battery box located in the boot of the car.
The BST cables (trunk - front bay), and the battery fuse box located in rear of car must be replaced. This all started when the airbag light started showing up on the display panel. NAM had a series of water in battery box situations mentioned in March '09 related to the '03-'05 Minis. If anyone knows what is causing this, please share. Poor design of the hatch to seals around tail lights and the possible plugged drain channels from the rear sunroof have been mentioned as possible causes. As of now, I am still investigating the options. If anyone has had this problem and found a solution, please share.
