I believe I read somewhere that they lost the manufacturer of the cloth for the seats, so it will be unavailable for a while until they can find another source.
I wouldn't be SHOCKED if this spelled the end of cloth seats for good since you can't get them in BMWs. I know it doesn't make sense in that the MINI is in a different price range (save for 30K MCSs), but BMW has done other things that don't make sense.

Sounds like you have quite a bit of time before your car goes into production, might as well wait and see what happens for a bit before choosing the alternative. Who knows, maybe they will be able to start producing it again or perhaps there will be some new options introduced in the time you have.
