Is there a chrome grill on the MCS ? I saw the photo in a magazine and am wondering if it's real or not.

That is a regular Mini Cooper grill fitted to a Mini Cooper S. However, MINI is offering a true three-slat chrome grill for the S beginning sometime in March for the UK market. I HOPE they will offer it to the US market soon after. I really hope they aren't going to save the option for the '04 model year in the US, because I want to order it!

See ya,

that looks cool, i wonder how it would look on a Dark Silver / Black Top cooper s. anyone willing to Photoshop it for me? or does anyone have pictures of that?
also, is that supposed to be a 2004 Mini Cooper, cuz the wheels look bigger and different.

Any dealer can order the parts for you:

Large Upper Grill: 51 13 7 026 202
Lower Grill Slat: 51 11 7 032 900
Adhesive Strip for lower grill slat: 51 11 1 490 960

Also, check with the dealers. Many have spare MC grills around from doing Aero kit upgrades. Maybe you can get a good deal.

For more info search on "chrome grill" here and on mini2.com, where you will find links to pictures, as well.

See ya,

I wouldn't be surprised to here that dealer don't start promoting the installation of the cooper grill on the S. It would be a great profit center for them. I had mine installed before I picked it up and it makes a world of difference in the "character" of the car. I think of it be more classic now.

Davisio - I like your idea to just have the dealer put the chrome grill on before I even pick it up. Your MINI looks really nice! and I totally agree that a nice grill is a feature that we all associate with the MINI.

It's not a matter of when they started, but a matter of making the request at the time of ordering. I just told them to research whether the cooper would fit. they said yes. i said change it!

I put the chrome grille on my MCS - I think it looks much better than the body color grille!

Okay, here's some better pics of my chrome MCS trim than what I have posted earlier in the gallery, so here are even more. Its all from a MC, mind you - you can buy it all at your dealer for around $250 or less. They sometimesd may have an extra set laying around from someone who bought an aero package.

Sorry that some are blurry; my digicam isn't the best in the world. Too lazy to get out the SLR, 'cos that means I'd have to get a roll developed, lol. This coming from an ex-photo major. You'd think I'd be more ambitious about my specialty.

Just as a warning, though - the bottom part of the grille is extremely hard to get off - you have to completely loosen the front bumper, and pull it down (it will only be connected at the bottom), then pry the old grille off with a screwdriver. Chances are you'll scratch the heck out of it. The top part, I couldn't get the little nut-like thingies from the other grille back on, so I wound up using a thread tap and GENTLY threaded the plastic nubs on the outer corners, then used double-sided foam tape around the grille, stuck it on the car (be sure to clean both sides with alcohol first), then used 3 washers and a nut on the two plastic nubs I threaded. The rear chrome piece is simple, all you need is a torx bit (I forget which size), and twp pairs of needlenose pliers to pull the harnesses apart and reconnect them (the don't pull out very far, hence they're a bit inaccessable). If anyone has questions or wants a picture of how I have it on, PM me.
