R50/53 CB Radios
CB Radios
During the past 11 years, we've owned 2 Miatas ('94 and '99). Loved them. Sold our Miata last October and bought a 2006 Mini S convertible. Even better. When I was riding with the local Miata club (Windy City Miata Club), we used a Cobra CB with a K40 antenna in order to keep in touch with the other cars during weekend touring events. I'm wondering how to set up the CB for the MCS convertible...whether to install the K40 with a magnetic base on the front hood, or look for a shorty antenna for the hood or maybe for mounting on the area next to the standard antenna (in front of the convertible roof). Anybody have any ideas?
Only problem these days is that most car club people have switched from CB to FRS/GMRS hand held radios. You'd probably find yourself to be the only one with a CB listening to truckers and still having to have a handheld FRS/GMRS radio to talk with the group.
I do agree that CB is more pleasant and "better", but I've given up on it, even for my 4x4 because it seems that they are really no longer what people are using. .

I have both, the FRS I've yet to really use and I have a handheld CB w/ six foot antenna exention that I can keep in the car. ture CB pretty much leaves me with the truckers, which is good for traffic incidents. The good part about my CB setup is I can remove everything in just a few seconds and don't have to advertise what is in my MINI.
It's a flex antenna so I attach it to the handheld and then tuck it through the gap for the sunvisor. The cord hangs straight down to just above the floor so I can get decent reception/range. Not sure if it can be done on a cabriolet though. I'll take some picks later this week when I have it set up again.
