How do I reset the oil change counter

I need to reset the change oil counter and I dont know how. Does anyone know how to reset the counter. I am 175 miles overdue according to the computer for an oil change. I dont use the counter I change my oil by my own standards.

I think the SES light came on once I went over the oil change counter.

Please help.....

Check post #3 of this thread. https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ndicator+reset

It can be a little bit of a pain, but after a few attempts I finally get it zero'd out.
Here is another:

New issue

Well I reset the counter but then it went to 15500 mile inspection and I cant reset that. What does this mean. I have 51K and some change milage mile wise so after 50K miles does it just count down to the next inspection for the vehicle or what......

And my SES light didnt go out since it came on after I went overdue on the oil change.

Well the mileage is correct. The sequence is: oil change / inspection / oil change / inspection / oil change etc. The only variable being whether it's Inspection I or Inspection II.

I'm at 88,000 miles and I've been doing my own oil changes since the free stuff ran out and I've gone as high as 175 over and never got the light. I've also never heard of the EML light coming on for an "over due" oil change.

Personally I don't think the two are related, do you know anyone with a code reader?

Dont know anyone

NO I dont know anyone but I find it odd that as soon as I was overdue the light came on but you would know better than I since you have more miles on your mini. I guess Ill have to go buy one......

Hope you're not trying to imply anything, I was just offering my opinion.

I'll take one more stab at it and then give up - check with the local guys at the nearest garage, before you go buy one. They run around $100 and aren't needed that often, I have one sitting in my shop that I haven't needed in awhile. 10 to 1 they have a code reader or will know someone who does.

BTW mileage means nothing, anyone else want to take a try.

No implications

Not implying anything slip of the finger. I did go and try to find one and everyone is sold out. I went to three different stores and no luck.
I was on my way to the store when my runflat light came on and I couldnt reset it either and I had no flat nor were they far out of wack from each other.

THEN as I was leaving the first auto parts store all the lights went out and everything is back to normal. HUH?

So i figure that gives me some time to get a scanner/reader offline. Much chaper also.

Reset oil change counter after being at dealer

Hi all

I took my 2006 Mini Cooper to the dealer to get an oil change but I did not get the "recommended" oil change so they didn't reset my counter. I have a feeling that they froze the counter since I have tried to restart it in all the ways I have found on the internet, and one of these ways has worked for me before. So when I get to the 51A screen and I hit the trip button it just says "END" now. So I was wondering if there was another way to reset it or if I just needed to give up.

Thanks
kmsche
