Just got hit!

I only had my MCS checkmate for less than 2 months and I got hit by a big F150 on the driver side. I was turning into a shopping center and this big F150 was not looking and ran right into my driver door. On a good note, the door still works fine and window still works, but the door will need to be replaced.

I will post pictures tomorrow, after I am not so pissed!!

Sorry to hear it, glad you're ok!
SB/S Checkmate was my second choice, you have something unique there!

Ouch!!!!!! on the half glass full attitude side, if it is only your door, it is a bolt on piece, and I'd suggest insisting you want a brand new door from MINI...not having the sheet metal repaired...

Sorry to hear! That really stinks. I just got hit in mine the Monday before Christmas. What a way to end 2005! Funny thing... the Jeep Cherokee that hit me had to be towed and mine drove fine. Mine looks new again and yours will too.

Ouch!

So, when the other driver got out of the truck, did they offer you $100 and tell you you could "buff it out?" I have found that a lot of drivers in large vehicles follow the "average law of tonnage": if they weigh more than you, they get to go first, regardless. I got backed into, and the driver did like above. (...or maybe he thought that because I am a female, I am also stupid... It cost $600 to repair Miss Kitty.) Do they think small cars cost less to repair, or they "bounce"? Yep...it gets me boiling mad. On the up side, I am glad to know that you are okay and the car is not totaled. Good thing MINIs are sturdy cars. Good luck and be safe. Flora Blue

In addition to the repair cost, be sure to make the trucks insurance company compensate you for the loss in the value of your car

My unoccupied 03' MC got rolled into in a parking lot by an unoccupied POS old Eagle Talon two weeks ago. Her insurance company has OK'ed repairs and the parts are at the body shop. Repairs to take place next week. The estimate was $1900 for a new drivers side door and straightening and filling will be required in an area behind the drivers door.

Make sure you ask for reduced value compensation for your MINI. I asked but haven't gotten it yet...the company says they want to see the car after the repairs first. I hope they don't try to say the repairs are so good, (of course I hope the repairs are perfect), that no compensation is needed. The cars value is diminished no matter how good the repair. Kelly Blue Book is a good source for a dollar figure for reduced value. In my case it is $1,055. I expect no less than that.

Let my know the outcome, and I know it made you sick that this happened. My MINI is 2.5 years old and it still made me very angry that someone would park their $400 car and it would roll into my MINI.

What if the insurance companies say the wreck is no fault and you have to file with your own company? Can you ask for the loss value from your insurance company? Where do you find the loss value estimate?

That's worse door damage than I have....but, you were lucky there is no damage behind the door as I have. No filler should be required and if the paint is matched perfectly you'll be good as new. Good luck.

Be glad you were in the MINI and not on the Aprilia!

Most importantly, did the driver of the F150 get a ticket? It helps alot in getting his insurance to cover the MINI. Did you all call the police and have a report done? Here in the DC area, the police don't normally want to bother unless there is an injury or a lot of damage. But I always call them and make sure the report shows the other driver to be at fault. I also call the other insurance company to file a claim and only inform my own of what is going on.
Mike
ps.Nice Checkmate Edition MINI! Be sure and mention that to the insurance and don't take the car to the recommended body shop. Rather, find out who works on the Ferraris and Lamborghinis in Vegas and take your MINI there.

Thanks guys!

My heart hurts everytime I look at my door. I babied that car and try to park it far away from other cars in parking lots and this happens. Its strange because my other car, a 2003 F150 Harley Davidson Ed., had the same thing happen to it. I got it only for 1 week and I went to eat with my wife at Rubio's and as we were eating, and I was looking at my new truck out the window, a lady in a Land Rover backs right into my truck.

As for the police, they were pretty cool about it, maybe because all my 3 sisters work for Metro here in Vegas. The officer cited the guy for failure to yeild to oncoming traffice.

Here is a picture of my baby before it got beat up:

I still love it and hopefully it is good as new when they are done. Anyone know of a good place to go have it fixed here in Vegas?
