just me or everyone wanna mess with MCS?

not that my MCS has poor gas mileage, I try to go easy on gas when i drive (just to save up some change for more toys..)

but why does everyone want to mess with me? from hooked up civics, BMWs, to big bling SUVs... i've encountered these cars trying to race me everyday for the past 2 weeks. of course i don't let them put my MINI to shame.

anyone in same situation?

*Edited to keep the thread alive. sorry if i violated any board rules.

I, for one, absolutely refuse to be prodded into a street race with anyone. If they feel they are more of a man (or woman) because they can "take" my MCSC from stop light to stop light, then so be it.

Doesn't hurt my feelings at all.

edit: And yes, the invitation has been extended MANY times.

Maybe it's my more "mature" age, but I don't get many if any street-racing invitations. Not in my M3 either. Don't need to prove anything either.

termigni, it's not just you. Everyone seems to find the location of the gas pedal when around the MINI. I don't get it.
Unless it's a worthy opponent, I won't even waste the gas.

i'm just stating how MCS makes others jealous, and how jealousy leads to stupid encounters on the street. no intentions to talk about street racing.

I don't think this thread will be here much longer, but I have found that most people stopped trying to race me on the street when I stopped glaring at them and revving my engine repeatedly at stop lights. . .

Depends on where you drive...

But my CR/W S doesn't get nearly the challenges that my 65 Mustang does. The Flowmasters on it just SCREAM, Hay Punk! YOU SUCK, or at least it seems that almost every punk hears it that way. Just learn not to rise to the bait. Saves on gas, and can save on fines.....

It also depends on where you drive. In downtown San Jose, I get that a lot more than around my home, in the mid Penisula. Younger punks with more testostrone....

I have to contribute

to this thread, because one I started months ago was shut down for talking about the same topic. As an social scientist, I'm always interested in behavior, and in this case it's that of the moderators. Clearly there's a line drawn around the guidelines, which each member of the forum is expected to respect. I crossed over it, was reprimanded, agreed with the decision and have subsequently abided by the rules. My reading of this thread suggests it's a line call of Wimbledon proportions.
btw, I don't race on the street--a great temptation owning a modded MCS, but after a track day it became very clear to me why I preferred that venue for going very fast!

cheers,
gandini

I found that people just tend to not like to be passed by me. Never had that problem in my old bimmer.

I avoid eye contact with anyone out here that might want to race. I just want to enjoy my time in my MINI without pressure, so I make it clear I have no interest by accelerating slower than usual. Sometimes people out here are relentless, though, so I understand your woes.

I wonder if it's just MCSs as the thread title suggests, or all MINIs? To most people who don't own a MINI, there are very few external cues to discriminate an MCS from an MC, especially as many MCs have S-Lites or other wheels, and many MCSs have stock wheels. Maybe more MCS owners mod their cars with after-market wheels and so attract more attention from boy-racers (an old Aussie term from my youth--whew, now that's a long time ago!)
Just a thought...

Just let the nitwit wanting to race you go on his merry way. He'll eventually get a slew of tickets and you can spend the money you would have paid out on a track day and have a heckuva lot more fun. And no points.

As several people have pointed out.....It comes because you stare at people.

By staring at someone you are challenging them, this provokes a childish response from those stuggling with thier masculinity (e.g. revving thier engines) If you have a comprable lack of confidence you will rev as well then in a display on recklessness and hormones you make fools of yourselves and endanger peoples lives.

Only one time have I been minding my own buisness that some idiot pulled up beside me to rev thier car to get my attention. I looked over to rind two very hot asian chicks in a complely riced out civic, I could hear the massive turbo, Just smiled and shook my head, laughed to myself and went calmly about my way.....probably thier boyfriends car! lol

Happens to me all the time in Seattle. Not by the tricked out ricers though, they seem to know and don't want to be showed up. More by the junky imports. Like the 90's Mitsubishi Mirage yesterday. That was funny. And yeah, by big cars/suv's all the time. I don't quite get why they do it or what they are thinking, but they always underestimate the MINI. Its like they think that they are bigger, so better, and rule the road.

Here in Hawaii too.. lots of modded-up civics just looking to street race...

I use to be easier to go with my old Turbo Miata....

however, I now choose to pick when I wanna get on the gas...not when some other clown wants me to get on the gas.... Street racing is bad...we all know that.... sometimes temptation gets the best of us...human nature...

Why ask a question you already answered in the opening of the thread? A race HAS to involve more than one individual or it's just a time trial. They RACE this guy because they know they can get him to take the bait. GOOD fish, just like real fishing. I used to go for it a lot on my high performance motos, but mellowed after I sat it out on the bench for a couple of seasons.

It is my dream one day to have some guy egg me on to race, but me see a policecar that he doesnt notice. And then to rev my engine like I am gonna let loose but let him/her shoot off and get pulled over. One day...

Actually with the MINI, I've noticed a generally diminished level of altercations, although its winter and I've only had it a month. Nevertheless, if you want to experience the full range of jacka$$e$ out on the public highways, try driving around in a winged 911 sometime. I once was in the middle lane minding my own business, had a guy come up on the fast lane on a wet road in light rain on a bike, slow to get on my door, put the clutch in, rev the engine and point down the road. I looked at him, laughed in such a way as to indicate he was obviously a complete idiot. If I could have had a word or two I might have pointed out to him the the number one source of nice healthy and fresh donor organs comes from a demographic comprised of jerks just like him.

WTF makes people behave that way? I have never in my life spotted an interesting car and felt I had to prove it or its occupant were somehow inferior to me (well except on track ) . Quite the contrary, if I acknowleged its presense in anyway it was with a thumbs up. Sad, very sad. Good source for liver transplants though.

Hmmm. I wonder if that's what guys think about my car.
Oh- I see. Hot chicks aren't allowed to have hot cars.
Now look what you've started.

Maybe it's strange, but people don't challenge me. I kinda expected to be harassed all the time with a CR/UJ MCS. On a rare occasion when someone tries to get my attention at a red light, it's to ask a question about the car.

I've had people try to get me to race in my Cooper. I think it's the stripes. I even had a guy in an H2 try it. I usually don't even look over at them when they rev. And I never race.

Although, like Rawhyde said, most of the time people try to get my attention in traffic it's to ask a question about the car.

I'll be interested if this thread is deleted: it's not about street racing; it's about NOT street racing.

Seems to me this kind of level-headed discussion should be encouraged.
