Just got home from Lowe's and picked up 4 5/8" and 2 11/16" black nylon plugs to fill the holes on my interior door panels.

Probably not something anyone else will notice, but I do! The black against the "brushed aluminum" and black panther leather give a nice contrast to the car.

I'd really like to see some more mods put up here that are cheap and easy to do. Just because the economy isn't great, doesn't mean we can't do some cheap mods! haha

I painted my brake calipers last summer for roughly $20. I have a whole step-by-step picture documentation if anyone is interested!

Custom painted skid plate..

Cost was a couple cans of spray paint, sandpaper and lots of time.

If I am ever upside down in a ditch you'll know it is my car!!

Very, very cool idea! Talk about attention to detail. haha

Almost forgot to suggest this... went to Autozone last summer and bought LED tail light bulbs. They plug directly into the stock sockets for the brake lights... tremendously bright and match the LED's of the 3rd brake light! Give the lights a crisper look and more concentrated light output.

Only cost me $20 and 5 minutes.

Also bought a stubby antenna from the Honda dealership I work at (with my parts discount!). Supposed to be on an S2000, but fits my MINI perfectly!

Saw this post at work and stopped at Lowe's on the way home. Best $5 mod I can think of.

Dorky? Yep, that's what this is.
You know that little round plug in the rear bumper? Well, every time I looked at it I just kept envisioning it like this .....So I did it.

Thanks for the measurements, that would have taken me forever to figure out

That is a great idea. Around here it's hard to find any help in the Lowes store, so can you tell me what section of the store I might find those plugs in ? It will be easiest if I can just walk in and pick them up rather than try to find them blindly.

Thanks for your great thinking!

My 02 took 4 x 11/16" plugs and 2 x 5/8" plugs instead of the other way around. Still did the trick, and at Lowes it was $1.39/pair. (They come 2/bag) Greatest and least expensive modification I've done yet.

Checkered Rear view Mirror

Somwhat annoyed over the fact that the checkered rear view mirror caps are not offered for pre 7/2004 model R53's. I came up with this idea today.
Thanks so much for this. I've wanted to get a checkered mirror cap for my 2002, but I had no idea they weren't even available. Plus, if they were, they'd be $60. I'm totally going to try this. I like that you budget yourself for MINI mods. My budget is for Starbucks.

what I REALLY liked about those mirrors was the fluid look of the checkers. They "wrap" around the mirrors like they were stretched over... very cool!

I dont know if we're talking about the same car, but a year (?) or so ago, there was a person who hand cut each 'square' by hand and arranged them so that it looked like the checkers were stretched over the mirror, as if it were a flag that got caught on the mirror in the breeze. It was very cool.

On the inside? That would look cool. I'm actually trying to find a smaller interior rearview mirror that doesn't block the frontward view as much, especially in uphill right hand bends...

If you're talking about the outside mirrors, that may have been me... here I wanted black-on-silver checkers and didn't have wallet jing, so cut 'em out as shown a few posts up... used plastic wrap, a laser level, and water-soluble marker to create the pattern and had at it! The pattern ended up looking something like this Rohrsach test:

Yep, that's it. They were on the outside mirrors. The finished product looked outstanding.

Thanks!

You can also just get some silver vinyl and extend the Checkmate flags, did this for a car show, $0 mod, and easily removable (took it off just after PVGP last year)... kinda sorta matched the mirrors too...
