Popping sound

We are hearing a popping sound that seems to be coming from the passenger/rear window area . We asked the dealer to take a look at it at our last service, and he didn't really offer any comment other than he hasn't heard of this with any other 05 mini's . Has anybody else noticed this with their windows? It doesn't happen all the time, only when pulling in and out of uneven places for example the parking deck at work and into the garage at home .

Can't say I have ever heard anything like this before. Are you sure it is coming from the window and not the suspension? That would be my only idea.

Are you sure it's the windows? The only popping sound I know of would be the exhaust, in which case that is normal..

Right...it comes from when you let off the gas when the engine is in the 2-3k rpm range.

the popping sound occurs from the suspension when you go above 3k rpm. When I first heard it, I thought I didn't close the trunk tightly.

No, I'm not sure it is in the windows , it sure sounds like it though, and it is only when driving over uneven surfaces such as parking decks, garages, and on one of our friends driveways that has a dip, it doesn't do it everytime.

One thing you can check is the rubber ball on the string that lifts the rear tray when you open the boot. If it gets a little sideways motion going, it can tap against the trim panels. Or possibly the rear seat belt clips.

Sorry to hear about your service visit. I think NAM really needs a Dealer Service Rating system here.

When I start mine first thing in the morning, and drive off, once I reach about 10 mph I hear a popping noise. I have no clue where its coming from. Sounds like it's by the back drivers side tire, but????? :impatient Happens everyday. Probably should go have that checked out.

the same problem here, rear left side, will take it to service, inspected the suspension, nothing, i think it is related to the hatch or body panels in the back... will post when i find out something.

If you only hear it once after starting the vehicle, it may be the anti-lock brakes checking themselves or whatever it is that they do.

"popping" sound

I have a sound that occurs when backing out of my steep driveway and turning the car as I back into the street. I believe the sound I hear is due to the twisting forces on the body as the car passes from the steep driveway into the (flat) street. I just ignore it.

I get a light "click" type noise when accelerating/decellerating as the torque is put on/off. Seems to be left front. Dealer couldn't find it. Must take it back again. The mechainc verified the noise.
