Bizarre Trunk Door Problem

I think this'll necessitate a visit to the dealer, but thought I'd ask in case anyone had experienced this or had any ideas re a quick fix... My trunk door won't open when I want it to. I apply pressure to the area your supposed to squeeze on, and nothing happens, it stays locked. But -- when I start the car & stop it, the trunk pops open by itself as soon as I switch off the engine!

So the truck opening mechanism doesn't seem to be fried, it looks like some strange software glitch. The Mini is a week old, the trunk was working perfectly for the first few days. Is this a problem that others have had, with some type of simple quick fix, or not especially.....?

Maybe if you start calling it a boot it will stop being willful and act correctly

Seriously though, I have never heard of that particular problem, how annoying Best of luck with having that fixed asap.

So sorry. I think you have to go to the dealer. Are you using the key fob to unlock it before you try to open it?

P.S. MINIs have bonnets and boots. It may seem silly, but it is true.

Are you making sure that the car is completely unlocked when trying to unlock the boot? If only the driver door is unlocked the boot will still be locked until you unlock the passenger door as well.

Actually, it all depends on how yours is programmed.......they can be programmed differently by your dealer......and keys from different years (just comparing mine to my husband's-I am no expert) have different buttons/options...........

Thanks for the suggestions. I tried it again today & it worked fine, right off the bat! I wasn't imagining things (which is what the dealer's going to think, after I call to say that they cancel my service appointment ) and I hadn't done anything strange with the keys. Last night it consistently would not open by pulling it up, and it would consistently pop open when I started & stopped the engine!

My theory is that it was some strange software thing which reset itself after a few minutes. Also my car was absolutely drenched last night (it was pouring very hard), wonder if water got somewhere it wasn't supposed to. At any rate, the problem's solved, for now!

Hope things are ok as of yet. Im not sure if my car was setup this way or not but, when I get home at night, before leaving the seat, I unlock the doors by using the switch in the center of the dash. This also unlocks the boot so it can be opened and closed without having to use the fob each time to gain access to the boot.
