On topic: yes I'd buy another MINI. It'd be another Cooper, too. The character of the car is overwhelming. Others may do this better or that better, but MINIs offer a strong package that, for me, does it all and a bit more...something perhaps difficult to pin down. I have had no real problem in three years of ownership. In those cases where something needed to be checked, the dealer was awesome...way beyond anything I've ever seen before. The community is an added benefit, albeit a slightly dysfunctional one. Overall, my MINI has offered one pleasant surprise after another and, years on, still enchants me every time I motor. It is simply magic.

I'd also like to add that depending on where you live, the Mini dealership has some of the best service, and some of the all around honestly nice folks around.

I live in Orlando, Florida, and if/when I sell the Mini for another big V8 RWD car, I'll definitely miss that level of professional courtesy, that's for certain.

If I won the lottery tomorrow, I would order a Pepper white JCW Mini on the way home from picking up the cheque. Then my fiance could drive the Astro black JCW Mini we have now and I could have the white one all to myself.

Same here. I will still buy a MINI over other choices in the same category for its design and performance, plus a lot of from people.

Would I buy another?

I hate to be the downer - but as my 2003 is now out of warranty and am experiencing a load of little problems which I will ultimately have to $pay$ to repair - its a tough question. Overall the quality has been fair - have experienced a consistent engine oil leak, problems with a transmission seal, seatbelt sensor, replacement of glove box, assorted squeeks and rattles, broken windshield (not replaced under warranty) intermittant problem with airbag light and now a problem with the power door locks, a high pitched squeal from the passengers door weatherstrip, a starting problem and a heated windshield washer nozzle that doesn't heat - I am really contemplating ridding myself of this car. Don't misread this as I hate the car - that's part of the problem. Its no comparison but my 91 Ford Ranger at 130,000 hasn't required this much maintenance/repair. I guess until I am convinced that the quality has improved drastically I would hesitantly say no.

I'll go ahead and reply with what several others here will tell you:

"Ohhh come on, those are just little character quirks of this car. It has personality! If you don't like and appreciate that, then you were never a real Mini person to begin with!"

my 03 MCS has been pretty problem free..

will i buy a mini again? hm... there's a few factors at play right now
since im looking at a track car now... i'll need a full time autoxer, winter, and street car that's comfortable... the coopre (not the S) certainly fits that bill, but lacks room...

so the short answer right now is likely, but who knows when my MCS goes on sale

Personality

Yes the car has personality but I don't consider unreliability a good character trait - especially at the hourly rate of the Mini dealer and the fact that it is a 1 1/2 hr drive. You can glamorize the car all you want but most of us drive the thing from point A to B and if we have fun in between its a bonus. I don't deny that my Mini is fun to drive - has loads of personality etc but the bottom line it is still a car which if I do decide to get rid of I will surely miss. Am I a "real Mini person"- if that means putting up with poor quality - I guess not.

I can understand your point of view...given the problems you've had to deal with, I think dampened enthusiasm makes sense. Many of us have had few (if any) problems and so, naturally, we'd have a different perspective. For the record, if I deemed my car "unreliable", I'd probably have to opt out as well. However, I'd probably do the same w/ "dead boring," too, if that was the price to pay for reliability.

Absolutely. In fact, I am. Even if all the complaints I have read here manifested in my MINI, I'd buy another. There just isn't as fun a car out there.

No regrets at all about buying a MINI.
Drove an '07 when my '05 was in for scheduled service, did not like it enough to buy one. Better motor but that was all. Still prefer my '05.

Well, I'd have to say that if I had it all over to do again....6 months later. I would probably have gone for the 2007 Cabrio Sidewalk simply so I could get the new malt brown leather. I just configured a Sidewalk with everything I got on my 06 (trading DS for Astro Black) and it came out to $100 more! Oh well...

the only way i would NOT buy the mini, is if i never drove it. The mistake i made was going to test drive an 03 MCS silver/silver without a salesman with me. after driving tons of cars at the valet i work at, i probably would have gotten a 350z/g35 or a honda civic SI hatch. whichever of the cars (other than the mini) would have been boosted by now. I still love the mini more though.
